its a week before exams and the library closes at five.... it seems a bit unfair that they close do early when exams are looming so close. another thing is that when i get kicked out in an hour or so i have no where to go except the freezing x block ad the rest of the college is locked up.... surely they should have the buildings open????

Ah yes, the battle with DCU security continues. There is a bridge connecting the X and S buildings, so you might be able to get into the engineering building, which is connected to the physics and computer apps buildings. You will probably be kicked out at 6 or 7 from those if you can get in.

Even during my exams at christmas I couldn't get into the building where my exam was taking place for about 10 minutes because all the doors were locked bar the last one I tried.

its the working world, no one wants to work on a bank holiday, nevermind work late. and people need to be working to keep those buildings open. seems unfair to students, but cant just have the selfish point of view

well i can... its a college they are supposed to have the facilities there to use. any other time of the year is grand but it is the week before exams. thats my point

I thought the same when i was in DCU. then again, not everyone has theyre exams now, or theyre projects due, so you cant limit to this time of the year.
Think of it this way, if you were working security, or in the Library, why the hell should you give up your day off for some bum students

I thought the same when I was in DCU and I still do. It's pathetic having the labs and library close coming up to exam period. We can't have lights and heating on when we could send the students home and save some money, what would they expect next?

PS Security work 24/7 so having the buildings open really makes no difference at all. The only problem are the library staff.

well security are always here so why couldnt they keep the buildings open ?

its hard enough to get security to open a building theyve locked you into or one to open one out of hours for clubs or socs events. plus i imagine its minimum security for bank hols. so either they cant leave the office, or are not going to do more than they have to. theyre famously lazy

How come nobody seems to be capable of studying at home? Did you want your school to stay open on the weekends coming up to the Leaving Cert too? It's not like they suddenly sprung this on you, any changes to the opening hours are always widely publicised way in advance. Could you not have planned ahead for the 5 hours that the library would be closed?

Unfortunately we don't all have access to hundreds of books at home, and some people don't have anywhere to study, or a computer which is pretty much essential nowadays.

And you're right, I'm not capable of studying at home, which is why I use the library.

fortunatly libraries allow you to take books out. and the few you cant you could take notes on before it closed. saying the library is closed is a poor excuse to not study. it realy was a max of 5 hours that you'd have to come up with somewhere else to study, not a big deal.

    Open until 6 at weekends.

If you're not a CA student then you won't be able to login to the computers though.
