    Don't bother with the Sony drive that's just a rebadge.

    If you want proper control over the drives speed get a Plextor drive as the PlexTools software has the ability to alter the drive read speed in the firmware thereby making it quiet at all times.

    Alternatively for use with any DVD drive I would recommend AnyDVD as it has a software based solution to slow the read speed down which can be found in the settings section of the program.

    i have an nec 3520 - a drive with noiseless firmware available...
    except, its only noiseless on non-writable media, i.e. pressed dvds.

    i tried various speed limiting software but they always make ny drives stop working, not jus the mce, but the laptop and desktop too
