Ah those were the days sci-fi rocked. Dirk Benedict was a creditable actor who would not dare appear on a reality show. As for the present one I just cant get into it. I prefer the old one. What do you think? Can people compare if they have not seen both completely? As a result I am not going to vote as I have only seen a dozen episodes of the new one.

    New is better.

But there's no point in comparing them - they're like chalk and cheese. Both good for different reasons.

    New>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Old.

A dozen episodes should I think be enough to base an opinion on, no? That's just about the whole first season.

Anyway, I much much prefer the new one, but then as someone else already said, they really are chalk and cheese. The basic premise, some character names, and the name of the ship are all they really have in common. Other than that they're entirely different shows, and it saddens me the amount of "old" fans who don't give the new one a chance because its not like their old favourite - its their loss, they're missing out on an excellent and original show.

    I think they're both great....in different ways.

I watched about 3/4 of the old one on dvd before getting into the new one and only recently started watching that last 1/4. The old show is really great. Much more depth in it than I remembered.

Still....the first two seasons of the new show (and the miniseries in particular) really rocked my socks. Definitely the best sci-fi I've seen. Season 3 has been a bit of a Lost season 2.....No direction to speak of but still watchable (I have not reached the end of it yet).

Branoic has it spot on, and fwiw I feel that this 'reboot' idea that is doing the rounds at the moment (James Bond Star Trek etc) is a mighty fine idea!!

Jesus wept.... The only good thing about the old one is that it spawned the new one.

I haven't seen season three yet but on the back of the first two I'd say the new one. The storylines were more complex, relevant and engaging and the show had greater scope. The took the original idea and expanded it. Plus the new shows have had more success - especially critically - than the old shows. Many would argue it's up there with the best shows on tv at the moment e.g. the Sopranos, 24 etc.

The new show is also very different to anything else on tv at the moment, sci fi or otherwise, which is refreshing. The old show could never make that claim. At best it was an alternative to Star Wars/Star Trek. At worst it was a cheap knock off. For me it was more of a guilty pleasure.

I think in my opinion the new one is way better than the originall but the old one has its charms, I remember watching it when I was like 6 or 7 and still watch it when its on today on the digital channels when I get a chance, although its abit cringe worthy now but still enjoyable.

I remember hearing how Bryan Singer who did x-men 1,2 and Superman Returns, wanted to do a continuation on the original Battlestar. would be interesting to see how that would have turned out but to be perfectly honest look what was put out in the end.. I mean its a genius show. Who doesnt get tired of watching Baltar scrape his way out of trouble every time the noose is just about around his neck? Or watching Boomer and Six too lol.

I think they are right to end galactica on season 4, Its never too good to overstay a welcome . I mean look at the star trek franchise, I used to be nuts about it and then it just went stale.

I think its the way peoples mentallity is now though and why the new galactica seems more beliveable even if its a scifi show. I mean in Star Trek they had everything at the touch of a button and it was more of a fantasy, in the new Galactica im amazed adama makes it through every episode like theres always someone being killed off, and the message it puts out is hard hitting in most episodes like the pegasus ones with cain basically condoning physical abuse on her ship with people abusing and raping prisoners. In a majority of episodes we see the human population is being corroded away both from casualites of war and whatever else. First episode they shot a ship down with a thousand people down because they thought it had a nuke on it. I mean that was never even heard of in Star Trek or any other show.

Hell in some episodes the viewers are even persuaded to think that the cylons are in some perverse way the good guys in the whole thing. Everything in the show is from a point of view much like real life at the moment.

I think the show reflects how griity and dark the world is we live in now where noting is really for certain, everyone has their own agenda.
Sad to see it go but it will be good to see how it ends because from minute one we were all asking how would they end it and I think alot of us wanted it to be short and sweet and end with dignity and not become a fad.
I mean Star Trek has had its day and it was really good up until voyager and enterprise's last season.

I loved the old one when I was young so I bought it again recently... It didn't age too well I'm sorry to say, I think I got to the third episode before I got bored...

Back to watching Blake's 7 until more BG

Completely agree. New Galactica has been a breath of fresh air and hardly a duff episode so far. I am a bit behind, admittedly, got the pilot and seasons 1 and 2 on DVD last year, then started watching season 3 on SKY until SKY & Virgin had big falling out. Will wait until DVD released. They are right to go out on a high. That's the problem with the Trek franchise, quality was spread thinly over the myriad of shows...

I cant beleive this is even a question. Firstly the new cylon raiders are deadly. They now have a credible and believable air about them, instead of three fuckwits sitting in a cockpit waiting to be blasted. There are now more pilots scoring kills than apollo and starbuck. And the cylon leadership is now a lot more sentient and way coolwer than some long distance shot of some one dimensional tool talking gack for an audience of aforementioned fuckwits to reply, 'by your command'.

    That's what I think, inanyway.

    Peace out

Old one was still good for it's day but hasn't aged all that well. New series is better :)

Yeah but they're all old people now, they stick to what they like. And they like the stuff they liked when THEY were young! ;D

New battlestar is so much better than the original, which is soo very cheesy and camp, also generally kinda stupid. (no wonder in got cancelled tbh)

Just because people are older than you is not a reason to label them as always seeking out the goold ol' "Olden Days" , Robnubis.

Well I 0nly really skimmed through a sliver of the original so I cant say intelligently whether it was good or not. From what I did see though I can imagine how it was able to carry us to the present age - and whether you liked it or not there was always a cult following of it. Just because you didnt see people in cylon costumes crashing the Star Trek convention and beating the ****e out of Mr.Spock is little evidence to support how good/bad it was.
