    shift+alt+apple+backspace. empty trash.

    shift+apple+n, new folder.

    alt+apple+esc, force quit. (ctrl-alt-delete equivalent)

    apple-esc, front row.

    shift-apple-h, home page (in safari)

shift-apple-3, print screen to the desktop.

    apple-space, spotlight.

What a good idea, i am new to mac.

my favourite one----when I have a lot of things open ( itunes, firefox, iwork, mail and so on....) i love the way i press F9 and i can see all my apps in one go and its neat the way you click onto the one you want to. That still amazes me.
My friend from spain showed me that trick, i was also showed a trick with F8 or F10 and i cant remember what it is. does anyone know??

That's your Expose stuff at work -- check its settings in System Preferences->Expose; you can set which key does what.

Also (for the sake of non-clarity): there is no "apple" key. There is only... COMMAND :p

yeah expose is great. F9 tiles all open windows, F10 tiles all windows from that program, and then F11 clears the screen.

yeah it is the command key but everybody knows what you mean if you just say the apple key! it would lead to more problems when people start to look for the command key!

I didnt know that about the F9 before, Cheers.

Does anyone know if there is a way to lock the computer like you can do in windows by hitting "ctrl-alt-del" and then selecting Lock computer so that you have to put a password in to unlock it.
    Thanks

you can have the scrrensaver come on and have a password to unlock that..

or if you have a macbook/pro you can download iAlertU.. google it.. its a motion sensor for mac that is activated by the remote... check out the vids of it on youtube! its deadly!

Na i just have a powerbook but ill try out the screensaver idea. I dont usually shut down the mac but just let it sleep so having a password somehow would be handy.

I've set up fast user switching (System Preferences->Accounts->Login Options) since I hate doing the password after screensaver.

Rename a file quickly - RETURN
    Hide all other applications - ALT/OPTION + APPLE + H

That screenshot one is a good one, I rarely use it but for some reason when I rack my brain to remember the shortcut I get it first time.

Get a few applications and spread them around your screen so that you can see all of them. Then pick one application and do that combination.

    got it working... alt+apple+ click

    pretty handy!

    I think he meant alt-apple-H
Apple + h hides the current window (get it back by clicking that application's Dock icon)
Apple + alt + h i THINK hides all windows except the currently active one.
Not TERRIBLY useful on a macbook, but maybe on a much larger screen you might want to banish a few windows.
    I suppose it's like a bosskey too :)

Heh, woops! Sorry, I meant alt-apple-h yup! I use it all the time on my macbook.

Get Exposé set up for Hot Corners - I find that so handy.

Shift + Cmd + Q which logs you out and takes you back to the log in screen but will close all your apps. Fast user switching as mentioned above lets you do it without logging out.

I'm sure the answer to this is blatantly obvious but I'll give it a try......
When in Finder if you go to File/move to trash the short cut is command and that key with the X on it which either symbolises something I dont understand or Im just to stupid to find on the keypad. Anyone know? Its really starting to piss me off!!!

That would be the backspace/Delete key. :)
    Very handy shortcut!
