Original Sylar!

Someone on another message board pointed this out and I was greatly amused by it...

    sylarscreencap1baw6.jpg

This is who Sylar was played by in One Giant Leap... he was originally an old hobo-guy with a beard and a scarred face.
Thanks to the wonders of photoshop we can see him as he originally appeared in One Giant Leap: Sylar, in his late forties/early fifties with a hobo beard and scarred face as seen after attempting to kidnap Molly Walker.

Original Sylar, who seemed to prefer direct confrontation over telekinesis (man handling Molly Walker, beating Chandra Suresh's head into a pulp with his hands) as compared to his later counterpart, was a more straight forward worker. Rather than taking on assumed identities to gain peoples trust he'd skip that step and go straight to the killing. Papertech employee? He'd much rather jump you in a back room while you're opening a can.

Sylar also possessed his own map of Chandra's super humans, through which he had a road map to every target required. He apparently forgot about this maps existence and his knowledge of Nathan Petrelli for whatever reason, or Current Sylar simply prefers doing things that hard way which would gel with his "disguising and manipulation" modus operandi.

Original Sylar also had one major polar opposite with Current Sylar, his room of forgiveness. While the Sylar we all know and love is an egotistical, megalomaniac with a God complex the original Sylar was a more tortured soul who could not overcome a hunger. They seeked solace in writing their issues on a wall stemming from "I'm sorry" to "Please forgive me" and "I can't control it". Of course he quickly got rid of all this but still.

Godspeed Original Sylar, we hardly knew ye.

Just thought it was an interesting bit of trivia ;) Makes you wonder what things would have been like had they kept him...

I never knew there was another Sylar. I think Zachary Quinto is great though, so I'm glad they changed it and gave him the part.

    I spotted that right away

I was like, why is this smelly old hobo the villain??

Then when I actually saw Sylar I was like wtf, they're nothin like eachother!

    Just a quick reference:

though Im gonna give the writers one mulligan on this.

Sort of noticed that myself. Not that they looked different especially, but there was a notable difference in the Sylar character after he was reviled.

I wasn't too pleased initially but at this stage I think they've done wonders with the 'new' Sylar, so all is forgiven.

I'd also hazard a guess that this show got a big injection of cash, and confidence, about half way through the season. Everything sort of got amped up at a point, new actors came on board and certain things like the voice-over and some less than thrilling story elements got left behind a bit. It all seems to be in the name of Entertainment though, and I actually think it's one of the endearing things about the series.

maybe all the "Forgive me Father" stuff will be explained next week
    when we meet his mammy
    ?
and perhaps his god complex too..

I remember back in the early days when Christopher Eccelston first signed on as a cast member it was rumoured that he might be playing the part of Sylar.

Apparently he turned down the part of Sylar as he felt having a European bad guy was a terrible cliche. Couldn't really picture him in the role now, Zachary Quinto makes the role his own.

I had completely forgotten the original sylar. I never really remember seeing any of his face, so I just reasoned it was the current Sylar but in a differant disguise.

You could argue that the Sylar character is evolving with his powers? :)

We never really did. The picture at the top of this thread is enhanced.

I'd say Zachary Quinto just hadn't been cast yet.

Tis also possible that that was deliberate, first episode of the series ansd we see an old guy lurkin in the shadows, hangin around at the point in time where it all began, much in the sam e way that future Hiro goes back to the subway to meet Peter, maybe in the future Sylar gets the timetravel thingy and decides that the only way to ensure his survival is to go back to a time before Hiro's meddling and create the original timeline in his own self interest, he would have the ability to remember thousands of differences in the various scenarios, and the advantage of being able to shape the timelines that Hiro is workin from.

So the older guy is Future Sylar? :D

I really like that idea, though I'm not going to bet on it at this stage. If it turns out the writers had all that planed out from the very beginning, I'll be dreadfully impressed.

They're amazing writers but even that's a bit far fetched! Sylar getting Hiro's ability would pretty much be game over, as he could just go back and kill any threat (Peter, Bennet etc.) at childbirth!

Ah but he cant simply go back and grab peters powers as that feck the timelines too much, what I'm sayin is that he acquires Hiro's powers later in life, and realises that he can go back and manipulate the timelines that everyone else sees before Hiro first manifests, that way no matter what changes Hiro makes its always going to be a reality that was invented and controlled by Sylar

Or maybe Sylar dies and that's the end of it?

Maybe he just ate the brain of someone who could make themselves younger... :p

I went and looked at the episode the picture in the first post was taken from and i noticed something in the scene the picture shows. Its from when Parkman and his blond partner chase Sylar out of the building the have Molly in. The thing is that Parkman actually shoots (and hits) Sylar, but Sylar gets back up and flies out. Now as far as I remember Sylar only gets flight and regeneration when he kills Nathan and Claire in the alternate future (and its possible he gets time travel from future Hiro) so maybe it is future Sylar come back to get Molly (maybe because she's the only thats enough of a threat to him?)
(or maybe it wasn't sylar in that episode, maybe it was the only person Molly can't find because he can see her)

If you put [spoiler.][/spoiler.] (without the .s) on each side you get the rollover thing.

    Thanks for that Raphael :)
