After many weeks of reading threads here and elsewhere I today bought the tomtom one europe. I almost went for a special offer by Evesham a couple of weeks ago ( AA Navcam 7700 - 179 euro) but thanks to Krusty Clown and others, I was pointed away from it.
I went to Halfords in Nass and was told that the tomtom one europe was 349 euros - 299 euros was a promotion that was now over. I then went next door to Harvey Normans and they only had the GB and IRL (Teleatlas) version for 299 euros.
The guy in Harveys told me I wouldn't get the Europe version anywhere for 299 ( I knew I saw here that someone got it in Halfords in Carrickmines for 299 euros). I then went to Halfords in Liffey Valley and just inside the door the tomtom one europe was on sale for 349 euros, but also on a seperate stand (to the left) it was on sale for 299 euros.
I asked the guy at the checkout if he knew much about the sat nav - he responded positively that he did. When I asked him who did the maps for the
tomtom one europe that they had, he told me it was tomtom(????). After that I spoke to another guy who did know more, but he wasn't aware that Teleatlas could be on the europe version.
However he produced the Green box (Europe) and it had reference to Navteq on the back of it (Happy Days) and from what I can tell it is the latest.
It is tomtom europe V4, 1 GB internal - with empty SD slot and map version (Navteq) v660.12256.
So far I have only used it around Kildare but It seems very good.
I would have thought Halfords would have the same price in all their stores but not so!!
Is there any sense in me updating to the latest tomtom europe maps (Teleatlas) or are do Navteq maps on this unit still have the edge for Ireland.

As far as I can tell the Navteq maps still have the edge on the latest Teleatlas maps from my own testing.

I saw on some of the postings here that Tomtom were giving FREE map updates (Teleatlas) for tomtom one europe units bought recently.
I have input the "product code" for the unit I bought last weekend in the totom website and this is the message I get,

"Yes, the map in your device is one of the latest available. This map supports a navigation experience up to TomTom standards. "

My maps are tomtom/Naveqs latest - v660.12256 - so I wonder if tomtom have changed their policy of giving the latest maps for free by using language like " This map supports a navigation experience up to TomTom standards".

Anyway I am very happy with the unit overall and I understand from what I have read here that the Navteq maps on it are still better (for Ireland) than the Teleatlas maps that tomtom are now offering - I also appreciate that these new Teleatlas maps are much better than the old regional (UK & IRELAND) ones.
I would be very interseted to hear from anybody who has experienced both maps, and is there any since in me contacting tomtom and trying to get the latest (Teleatlas) maps from them.
