If you were kitting out a place as a full-time bjj gym, any sujestions what gear you might need (besides mats, weights)

Also, anyone know where i could get climbing ropes??? You know the thick cordage type, like you'd see in a school gym

If your in Dublin and want to see what a full time BJJ gym should look like then check out Andy Ryan's SBG ( www.sbgnorthside.com ).

Re. the rope, haven't a clue, but Andy had one when we trained in Finglas so he might be able to point you in the right direction.

    hi andrew,
wer u wit liam when he came to tralee b4? i'm sh*te wit names

just thought i'd warn u, be careful wit those climbing ropes if ur using them for pull ups to enhance ur grip strength, wit healthy shoulders u should fine but if u have any pre-existing weakness in ur shoulders or strength imbalance then that particular excercise can cause a bad shoulder injury which happened to myself last year.

apart from that i'd say a crash mat is something i wouldn't mind having

    Hi Francis,

Ya that was me with Liam in Tralee. He's setting up a place in Cork City soon+ i was just thinking about what to put in there. Nice one for the info on the ropes, basically i saw them in Arte Sauve and looked like a good training tool

Here's a grip strenght killer exercise...

Drap your Gi/Kimono over 'chin-up' bar's and gripping the collar's do your chin-ups/pull-up's. You can also do the same exercise with a T-bar or most other exercise's which hit your back/lats area.

What sort of filthy Persian would suggest a threadmill? they're the worst invention ever. Ever.

If you're investing in anything cardio wise get a Concept 2 rower.

Get rings, with you can adjust the height. A bar for pull ups. Medicine balls are all good additions.

yep, very good exercise but it's the unstableness of the gi/kimono which can cause problems sometimes in d shoulders.

    Nice one lads,

I like the idea of rings, will look into that. Not much chance of getting a threadmil or rower, not much point really, most people have access to a gym anyway. Will definately get a few medicine+ stability balls, chin bars, crash mat is a great idea, didnt think of that at all
