Government ads telling us what to do

Initially it was mainly confined to UTV (which has gone as bad as telling you to go to the gym) and other northern channels but has spread its way down south.

Beginning with that cheesy "Go walking! Don't you know it's good for you" ad some years ago.

"Parents - listen to your children! They might have something to tell you!" which is on RTE right now.

The "Don't get food poisoning or everyone will hate you" (HSE) one.

And now Dublin bus's "stand in from the kerb or you'll die" ad.

Sorry but this is getting retarded. It reminds me of the way my mother talks to my 3-year old niece. We're paying the government to put ads on the TV to tell us what to do. Yes, we're PAYING to be told what to do.

    What a crock of shít.

Who knows? You'd think they almost don't want to do it.

I like these ads - there should be more:

"Shower at least once a day - could you live with the smell?"

Don't you see? They're using reverse psychology.

Public service announcements have been around since the TV was invented.

Not really sure if it's the same, but the TV licence ads. Guess what, if you get fined, nobody gives a ****. The government is telling us people will react in a way that they clearly will not. As if anyone gives a shite.

G.I. Joe should give the Public Service Announcements

More of them, I say. There's bloody idiots out there who need them. I haven't heard of the stand in from the kerb ad, and I'll presume neither did the old woman I had to swerve to avoid today did either. I think we need basic road rules on all the time in this country.

I got caught with no license, right in front on my neighbors. By the time i was going to work the next day the whole road knew. I could see the neighbors curtains being pulled back as i went to work, the evil eyes staring at me as i walked by. The men who lived on the road were standing at their gates, arms folded, looking at me as though they wanted to smash me to a pulp for breathing the same license fee paying air as themselves.

The old women were mumbling under their breath as i passed, saying things like "Riff raff", "of all the nerve" and "knob head".

life's unbearable now and I'll have to move, probably to the U.S. , Australia, or the Outer Hebrides.

Those T.V. license ads reflect real life. I know. Pay those fee's or pay the consequences.

Ha ha! Funny. Did you get caught out on their hand held detecters? Sounds like you molested the TV, not neglected its licence.

You had a tough day at the office

so you come home, make yourself some dinner, smother your kids, pop in a movie. Maybe have a drink.

    It's fun, right?

    Wrong

    Don't smother your kids.
