I'm sick of getting ripped off on ebay so this time I'm taking a stance.

I've been ripped off a few times when buying stuff on eBay. Mainly so called genuine items arrive and they are far from genuine. This time I bought a "genuine" 4Gb Sony Duo Pro. It arrived but there were 2 problems - it is a 2GB card and it's a fake. After 2 weeks of emails I finally get a reply saying send it back and I'll refund you. I did and sent a mail stating in no uncertain terms I'd leave negative feedback and report him to ebay/sony if he did not give me a refund including postage costs. The guy eventually refunded me, but not postage costs. Now I got a dispute from eBay saying can I confirm we agreed not to complete this sale so he can get his fee's back!!!

I'm sick of this shite everytime I use eBay so this time I'm taking a stance, so I have:

I've left him negative feedback saying he is selling FAKE cards and that he said he'd refund me which he didn't.

I've replied to the dispute saying we had not agreed to cancel the sale as I have not received a refund.

If he tries to fuck with me anymore (counter negative feedback etc.) I'm gonna also report him to Sony.

Am I a prick or did I do the right thing?

I think you did the right thing.

You are not getting what you are paying for, simple as that. Was it a seller with loads of feedback?

Yeah loads and loads of good feedback. My feedback stating his cards are fake may dent his sales. I'll probably loose my 100% feedback on 160 scores but what can you do..

Can you link to the auction site? Also, was there anything that struck you about the seller as unusual before the sale? Say, was the card much cheaper than other sites?

And yeah, I think you did the right things!

Why did you keep using eBay if it's happened so many times before?

Maybe he's had many positive experiences as well?

I really don't like the custom of the seller not leaving feedback still they get their feedback left first. It means people leaving positive feedback just to make sure they get their positive feedback, even if they weren't 100% happy with the sale.

I refuse to buy things that i suspect as being fake from these guys with thousands of feedback. usually if you read their feedback you will see that some people do leave negative feedback complaining about the fake gear but it might drag his score down to 99.5% or something stupid cause of the amount of stuff he will sell each day.

Unfortunately I think the majority of people out there don't really care if it's fake once it does what they want it to do and they feel like they are getting a bargain. Ebay is riddled with people like this so all you can do is try your best to avoid them. Always research someones feedback before buying so you know what you might have to expect.

I dunno what the problem with the card being fake, the vast majority of the sony memorysticks on ebay are fake... the huge difference in price between them and buying a real one off somewhere like amazon doesn't come from nowhere. I bought a 2gb card last year for €30 when they were retailing for €100. Yeah it's most likely fake but it works perfectly.

Yes, that bugs the sh1t out of me too. If it wasn't done like this, many sellers wouldn't have as much positive feedback IMO.

eBay don't seem to care though, maybe they don't want to disrupt their income from seller fees.

For all those saying I should have known better it was advertised as a GENUINE Sony Duo pro. Are you serious saying the problem was I should have known better?

I have had loads of good experiences buying on eBay, but I'd say for every 5 products bought 1 is fake. It really pisses me off. I've neglected to leave negative feedback before as you can be nearly guarenteed the seller will neg you back but this time I said fuck it. What tipped me over the edge was he wanted to get his fees back yet has not refunded me shipping even though he said he would.

I'd say eBay turn a blind eye to them all as it would decrease revenue for them otherwise.

This is the crux of the problem right here. Over a few years with about 200 feedback i've had cause to leave negative (as a last resort) only a handful of times. Since i don't sell via that account i couldn't give a damn about the inevitable retaliatory neg (which is supposed to be against the rules but is something else ebay ignore).

Well done on leaving the neg. It's thanks to people like you that i can avoid dodgy sellers with high percentages due to people too thick to realise they're getting ripped off.

it was MUCH cheaper then the official product from a Sony Shop yeah?

Cheaper than the Sony shop yes - but average eBay price.

    and probally from Japan/China?

    Nope - UK seller.

If you go to a market in any country your going to find fakes being sold as "Genuine", but yet you clearly know its fake, from the cheap price to being sold from a dodgy guy in a market.

I didn't buy "at a market in the country". Are you saying buying from a powerseller, with loads of good feedback is like buying from a dodgy stall seller?

Your argument seems to be that it's ok for sellers to sell fake goods on eBay. I don't.

Retaliatory negative feedback is not "against" eBay rules. If it says otherwise on these pages I'd love to see it:

    That is feedback extortion.

The average card on ebay is fake, so the average price is for a fake. There are only a handful of memory sellers on ebay that I would trust. Some fakes are better than the originals too.

Please post the link to the item you got or the sellers name.
