Looking for wine for a present

    Hello wine forum

I'm going to a christening on sunday and want to bring some wine for the parents. As much as I like drinking the stuff I really have no clue about wine. Can anyone recommend something, and where I could buy it? (I'm Dublin city centre based)

I see some recommendations here, but I got somewhat lost in the lingo :Dhttp://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055078996

As it's for a present nothing too unusual or that would be regarded as being an acquired taste, but of a decent quality. Red or white as I'll probably get one of each

    Cheers

Personally speaking I would go with a New Zealond Pinot Noir- most are light velvety and fruity and great for this time of the year. Wither Hills or Peregrine do nice ones.

White??- Hmmn. A totally drinkable and nice wine (even at room temp) is Villa/Vina? Esmerelda from Oddbins. Something I found recently which was yum was a Riesling by a Dr? Loosen? again from Oddbins. Nice, light, floral and beautiful to drink.

I always find those guys great (and no I dont work there). Tell them you want to spend x that you want something great in the price range, and invariably they give you something great.

Spend over €20 a bottle and you will be virtually guaranteed something v drinkable.

    K-

How much would you like to spend altogether?
Do you know what countries wine the parents drink normally?

A bottle of Chamapgne or even Cava is always a nice present to receive for an occasion. You can get a nice cava for €15 - 20 or decent bottle champagne for under €50. If you go into somewhere like Mitchell Bros they are great at giving advice - i got a fab bottle of white port ( not to everyones taste0 as a pressie for BIL n the basis of recommendation for the guys in there.

For red, i'd go for a Chateau Muzar, any vintage, about €20 - €30.

White...a decent Sancerre in the same price range.

But seeing at it's a special occasion, I don't think you'd go wrong spending an extra €20 on a bottle of Moet Champagne.
