    facts as follows:

I booked a holiday in France.
Went on to a website and saw a self-catering place I liked the look of.
Sent in a request for my dates.
Got a response which said that the property is available, the price is xxx etc. usual stuff.

This was fine with me so I booked it and paid the full sum of xxx
The owner sent me directions etc which I didn't bother looking at

I bought a map last week and decided to check out the route so I opened up her directions.
Lo and behold, it soon dawned on me that the place she had booked me into was not the place that I had requested. It's miles awy and rural whereas the place I wanted was in a town.

I contacted her immediately and had a fairly cordial discussion about this. She acknowledged the mistake and said she would try to get me into my original place. Came back to me and said this could not be done.

I said OK, can I have a full refund please? She said fine and I assumed this was the end of it.
The following morning, she contacted me again and said that she now believed I was part-responsible for the error and she was going to keep 50% of my cash.

I am arguing the toss with her and getting nowhere. She refuses to discuss the facts of the situation with me and instead accuses me of blackmailing her!
    see excerpt from email below:
"I do not take kindly to being bullied or blackmailed."

This is a ridiculous situation. The fault is totally hers and she refuses to even discuss the facts of the situation, she will only talk in emotional terms! The money involved is not enormous (few hundred euro) but it's still better in my pocket than hers, especially given these circs

Does any kind person here know what kind of legal avenues are open to me?

    many thanks,

    el S

we booked a holiday a few yrs ago with a french owned campsite and it was ****e not gonna go into details, but we were given a full refund after several letters, not only to the owners themselves but also various travel organisations such as michelin guides etc

Try talking to the French tourist agency - you'll get their details from the embassy.

    thanks for the replies.

I threatened her with reporting her to the website and the local tourism authority.

    lo and behold, full refund!
