Electric -VS- Manual Toothbrush

I've been using an electric toothbrush for the past few years and I'm beginning to think that they aren't as good as the old reliable manual ones. For a start, they seem a bit too aggressive on gums etc and never really seem to get the job done properly.

Is there any studies or anything proving which is better and is it really necessary to spend so much money on the more expensive ones to get a good clean or will a €5 manual one in the supermarket do a better job?

I'm thinking of switching back to a manual and would like to know what others think;)

Personally my teeth never feel clean after using an electric one, I got rid of it after about 3 days and went back to manual.

To be honest I don't see the advantage of one over the other. Plaque need to be mechanically removed from the teeth. whether you uses a manual or electric does not matter half as much as a through technique. I use a manual and find I can get around better with it. Some people find an electric better (particular sonicare one I have heard are good). Remember to floss though or you are only doing half a job. You can get electric flossers too.

I find my sonicare far superior to my manual toothbrush. My teeth have that silky smooth just been to the dentist feel with the sonicare compared to the manual. I also find it much better than the standard electric toothbrushes.

No adverse effects in the three years I've been using it.
