Ok so basically I need to send some OpenOffice "Calc" to someone who only has Excell at their end. Is there some kind of filter they can use to do so?

You could re-save it as an .xls from OpenOffice... I know I can open .xls sheets sent to me by an Excel user in Calc... so I'd imagine it'd work both ways.
I don't have MS office installed at the moment to see how well they come out, but it's a starting point.

There is nothing they can do, but there is something you can do. Do as DonkeyStyle says - save it in Excel format in Calc. I do this all the time with word and excel documents and never have any problems.

Open Office doesn't exist in Microsoft's world.

    Yet.
Microsoft are creating an OpenXML/ODF Translator add-in for Word, which will support editing of OpenDocument format files. OpenDocument is an open standard (used in OpenOffice 2.0+) for a file format supported by KOffice, OpenOffice and StarOffice.

The standard isn't quite there yet for spreadsheets (still some disagreement on how formulas should be represented). Should be available later in 2007 for Excel and presentations.

Also, if you're friend doesn't need to edit the document, another options would be to save it as PDF. Everyone has some kind of PDF viewer...
