Sister off to South America

    Hi guys

My sis is off to South America this summer with a few friends to visit a number of countries. Its probably just a result of too many holiday movies but my family are freaking out about her (everything from dodgy police officers to revolutionary gurrellias). The problem is my sis really isn't the most clued up person in the world so I am a bit worried she will wind up in trouble or do something stupid, and she is ignoring the more extreme advice from my parents

Anyone have sensible advice for her on things like things to avoid, areas to stay away from, things to think about. How dangerous is it down there?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to give her scaremongering advice but at the same time she needs to be a bit more clued in about what she is doing than she actually is.

    Thanks

What countries is she going to? I've heard that Brazil is one of the dogiest places (although haven't been ....).

Brazil's great and not dodgy at all besides some of the big cities. I guess that kind of applies to many of the big cities in South America though. You need to have your wits about you in Lima, La Paz etc. especially at night. FWIW Columbia is the one that has the biggest reputation in terms of dodginess but I can't verify whether it's true or not as I haven't been yet.
