Any recommendations for chain oil that won't ruin trouser legs? Also, what's good to remove the 3 in 1 that's currently on there?

Any chain oil will leave a stain on your trousers. Try to keep the chain clean - give it a good wipe down whenever you oil it and completely clean it now and again. Also, roll up your trouser leg, or get trouser clips...

A small bit of citrus degreaser before washing should get the oil out - alternatively you can get stain removers in the shops.

I find white spirits is good for cleaning the chain/cassette.

I find petrol works great and it keeps cleaning no matter how manky it gets, whilst cooling and adding a lovely odour to that chain. Wash well and lightly spray with motorbike chain lube. It stays much cleaner than 3 in 1 and doesnt have to be slopped on like other oils

An old toothbrush works well too for getting in at the tricky parts.

Stain Devils do a good stain remover - I've used it in the past to remove oils, but get the right one, that lists oil on the label.

Also, clean your chain and use Finish Line teflon dry lube in future, with a regular cleaning and reapplication. Sure, it'll cost a bit more than your 3-in-1, but it won't ruin your new jeans/work trousers etc.
