BF2 v BF2142

Just wondering, are people still mostly playing BF2 or has there been a majority exodus to 2142? I played the demo of 2142 and liked bits and pieces but it didn't really prompt a purchase.

Should I stick with BF2 or is 2142 worth the money?

I play 2142. I have never owned BF 2 but I would say I have played it for more then 30 hours . I was going to get BF 2 but my clans BF2 devision is dying down so I will just stick with 2142.

Have not touched BF2142. Played a bit of BF2 and enjoyed it, when playing with people I know and at Lan's.

Really though, I still enjoy playing BF1942 and BFV. They are still, in my books, the most enjoyable games to play.

2142, titan mode is just brilliant.

BF2142 is brilliant but I'd wait and buy quake wars ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,912 ✭✭✭SeantheMan

    Own all them

BF2 is the best :D ...except Infantry only..which has partially ruined the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,339 ✭✭✭✭LoLth

    Played all except 1942 (yes i am a n00b).

prefer 2142 to bf2. the unlocks are nicer, the ranking system better and the teamwork more apparent. One factor could be that I can run 2142 on almost highest settings but bf2 still runs like a three-legged-dehydrated-stunned dog, even after doublin ram, doubling the capability of the graphics card and upgrading the CPU!!!

BF:V is still my favourite overall though. had more atmosphere, or maybe it was just the shiney newness of it at the time.

BF2 Still rocks and I thought the demo of 2142 was woefull..Quake Wars is next on my list or maybe DOD :S

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭ambro25

    Been playing BF2 loads.

Just got BF2142 and BF:V not so long ago, to check them out fully... and now I'm flogging them on adverts!

    'nuff said

    > I totally passed on BF1942 and BFV during the day, and only took the pluge 'fully' with BF2, but I'd rather update my rig over the next few months/years and stick with BF2 (generally don't get much play time these days anyway) which will just get more and more gorgeous with more and more FPS, what with all the various SP and MP mods etc., than restart with a futuristic version - and them future weapons are, and just sound, pants :D

    I love 2142 tbh.

Yeah, I will definitely be getting Quake Wars when it comes out, just need something to tide me over until then. I guess I will stick with BF2 for now, since I already have a key, but whenever I play the game I always think "Wow, this is fantastic" for about a week, then I realise that people are stupid and have no concept of teamwork. I did enjoy the titan mode of 2142, but the rest of it just seemed so half-assed.

Maybe I will invest in DOD:S too. Damn you all, making me buy games!

Keep those opinions coming please :).

    Likeing BF2 atm

But all time favourite is BFV ftw

I've gone right back to BFV and am hooked again..playin up to 3hrs a night which is not bad since BF1242 shut down all my gaming interests down.

Bf2 ftw but I loved vietnam at the time like with the Hueys and the like . Can't believe it was omitted from the pole.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

Yeah, apologies for that, I just kind of bundled it in with 1942/secret weapons et all. I know, I know, very different, but I'm not really in a Vietnam kind of mood. :)

    bf2142 is a peice of sh*t

bf2 started out good but good ole EA fu*ked it up with the crappy patches and addons

    BFV/1942/mods FTW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

They're both brilliant but I'm bored with BF2. I've played it to death and don't really get much from it anymore.
2142 is excellent. Give it a chance, you probably wont think much at first but it'll grow on you. Once you really get into titan mode you'll have a great time.

The tunes in bfv are better than any of the other games in the series.

    Exact same as me....
BF2 is still a hoot, never enjoyed 2142, just felt wrong to go in the future with this game....

    2142 of course.

    BF2.

I dont like futurstic games. Saying that I have played 2142 and its "ok" id play it if I got it for free.

It's hardly that futurstic, you fire bullets not lasers.

Only 'futurstic' thing about it is probably the Titans.

Walkers are just tanks with legs!

    played bf2 and 2142,
and when first started playin 2142 i was thinkin that its defo not as good as bf2,
but now it is good, prob could be better in its own way.

YEah I'd agree with you. When you first start playing 2142 , its underwhelming, but after a while it begins to get very enjoyable indeed.

I reckon 2142 is better balanced over all. There's much less constant dying to vehicles, due in part to the commander posessing EMP strike weapons, and troops having access to EMP grenades and mines. No planes certainly helps. The maps certainly seem much more infantry friendly as well. I'd rather this was all done in the BF2 setting though. It'd be nice if they backported the improvements to BF2 along with some new maps.

id have to disagree with that.
if anything this game is majorly vehicle dependent!
i rarely see people or myself spawn somewhere where theres not a vehicle.
tbh i hate spawning when i wont have a transport ship.
and the maps are so big you need a vehicle to et around.

My view is almost certainly biased that way since I stick to city maps in conquest mode.

And I'd guess Br4t plays mainly titan maps.

As had been said already, it takes a bit to get into 2142, but it really starts to grow on you.

Vietnam easily the best in the series.
The soundtrack, helis, playing music in your tank, the weapons, shooting down helis with an SA7...im still at a loss to figure out why there was no SA7 equivalent in BF2. Not having any kind of defence against helis (apart from TOW missiles etc) meant total heli rape on bigger maps

not as much as i used to.
well lately i have been but mainly cos a mate only just got into the game, and he likes titan.
but i like assault lines more.
    and ive been enjoying conquest.

Especially the fact you could add your own :)
i used to have a deadly playlist of the best Vietnam tunes

    The Doors - The End
Thin Lizzy - Boys are Back in Town
    CCR - Fortunate Son
    Edwinn Starr - WAR
Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash/Paint it Black
    Golden Earring - Radar Love
Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild
George Thorgood - Bad to the Bone

Just to name a few :p

I think that was the same with BFV when it was first released. If i remember correctly, when I got it and played it first i didnt like it that much and went back into DC. However, I stuck with it for a few more hours and it really quickly grew on me.

BF:V was great fun (apart from the lag at the temple!!) and very atmospheric. I agree that the music was a great touch and has yet to be equalled. What turned me off it though was the lack of team play on public servers. 1 chopper + 1 gunner wiped out flags. No-one took anti air.

BF2: I really liked. Again though, public servers still lacked in teamplay (I was probably just on the wrong servers). The complete lack of anti-air for infantry annoyed me. By the time the ground based defenses got a lock, you were already dead from the jet. but Karkand , daquang oilfield were still great fun. (dune buggy!!!!!)

BF 2142: I'm a sci-fi fan. I love futuristic games. 2142 isnt as far flung into the future as some people seem to fear it is. Its still very close to BF2 tech. I do find it a lot more balanced than either bf:v or bf2 (ok you have to get unlocks to get it balanced 'cos you're pretty crap right out of the gates) but you get the essentials pretty quickly. I find the teamplay much better and there are tangible rewards for squad based play. You get field upgrades (a great way to test out equipment!) for playing as part of a squad, resupply, kill assists with squad memebrs, heals, repairs, success points etc. Playing as part of a squad you get a lot more points than playing solo. Yes, there are still crap servers out there where commanders dont give orders , neither do squad leaders but these, or me have been few and far between.

I dont like the goliath though. You hammer away at it then some lucky git hits it once and gets all the kills.... admittedly you get points for destroying the blue bits.. its the same with any armour. pity they cant record the damage you do to it and you get something even if you're not the one to destroy it completely :(

I've played most of all the series and have only stuck with Bf2142. The thing that made it stick for me was only when I got into a clan and played using TS. There is nothing worse than trying to play 2142 without teamwork or with a useless commander.

Titan mode just blows everything away for me. I've never been a big teamwork fan, i usually just go off and do my own thing. Teams slow me down, i actually look forward to the teamwork in titan mode once the shields are down. Also like the teamwork put into taking down the goliath. 2142 definately. takes time to get into it, but oce in your hooked to it.
