Modem necessary for Internet?

    Dear Sirs (ou les femmes),

    I'm going to buy a desktop on 'Dell.ie'. The website is giving me the option of buying a modem for 30 Euro. (so i presume the comp doesnt automatically come with one).

    ...Do i actually need to get this modem to surf the web? (I plan to get Broadband if this affects the issue)

    If you are getting Broadband, then the modem is not needed. Its only needed for the good old dial-up.

    They can also be used to FAX from your PC, although there are many online facilities for that too.

    If you ever wanted to add one at a later stage? they can be purchased in the likes of Maplin for as little as €15 in the white box section.

    Yep they modem is not needed. I removed the modems from my 2 PCs because it will also reduce power consumption within the case and leave a PCI slot available.
