Bike Stolen....

Hey, just found out yesterday after coming home after a weekend away that a bike was stolen from the garage. You will see my post from two weeks ago where I'd just ordered a Planet X for €1,500 to replace my Giant OCR 3. I had just assembled the Planet X myself but wanted someone who knew what they were doing to have a look at before cycling so I hadn't cycled it yet.

Luckily, just before I left on Friday, I left it at the bike shop along with my Giant which needed serviced leaving only one bike (which was also bought this month) in the garage - one of those €79 suspension bikes from Dunnes... :D

It belongs to my Dad who's not into his cycling but just wanted a cheap bike for the odd cycle in the good weather. I guess it'll serve as a good lesson to lock the bike up even when in the garage. I guess I'd better get a good lock - as the only lock I have at the moment cost less than €15.

Phew, that was a narrow escape for your bikes at least.

Don't know if you had put your Giant up for sale (perhaps mentioning your new bike as the reason for the sale), but I'd advise anyone putting a bike up for sale to read about the experience regarding selling a motorbike noted here:

It wouldn't surprise me if a similar trick is used for pedal bikes, if a thief knows that there are a Giant OCR3 and a shiny new E1500 bike somewhere, they may come round to have "a look" at the Giant, and then come back later to nick both.

If it's your own home I'd suggest investing in a decent ground anchor.
