Folks in view of the new soccer deal next season and the exorbitant price of Setanta Sport on the Sky platform do people think their will be an exodus of sports fans back to Chorus...

    Possible reasons.

30 Saturday afternoon premiership matches/Magners league rugby plus more
as part of the basic package on Setanta sport ireland.

SkySports plus all the other force fed channels at normal rates. Basically we'll be getting 92 + 30 = 122 prem matches for the price of 88 last season.

Stay on Sky sub and want to watch Setanta as well we'll be fleeced...

    any comments?

I don't think so as most of the people with Sky can't get Cable or MMDS.

Lots of people amazingly don't watch sport at all.

No doubt Chorus & NTL will get some Sky customers, and of course people will then actually get all the BBC & ITV free, easier on out-of-contract Sky Box.

Also no PVR or HD yet on UPC.

YOu can get FTA satellite and just a Setanta sub.

Yes, thats correct, many people have little or no interest in sports and if there is some game of national importance it is normally on national TV

The pubs will do well out of this.

But how many of these 30 games will be on Setanta Ireland?

The thirty games are made up of the 15 that RTE had up to end of this season plus the 15 Setanta had. i.e. 30 in total which will be all on Setanta Ireland at 3 pm on Saturdays...

Have NTL/Setanta announced that their current deal providing Setanta 'free' on NTL will continue, and if so for how long ?

Didn't someone say that they saw some promotional material that said only some of those games will be on Setanta Ireland. An exodus of sports fans back to Chorus? I don't think so.

yep got the brochure right in front of me. 12 games on setanta ireland. the other 67 exclusively live on setanta sports 1 and 2. so actually it means less games on setanta ireland next year than this year.
However at the moment I think ntl charge 12.99 for the rest of the setanta pack compared to 18euro with sky(granted that includes setanta ireland)

Seems strange that the thirty Saturday games (which can only be shown in Ireland)are being spread across channels such as Setanta 1 and 2 as well ,which are available on UK cards and would then have to be blocked??? If thats the case Santana can stuff it , I won't pay a penny for any of their channels... Sports Saturday will do me thanks...

Plus, when I had Chorus Digital, the picture was forever ghosting, and tiling, and 6 engineers couldn't find an answer for it. So no, I won't be returning to Chorus, despite the 20 or so letters they've posted to my house promising great service.

Anyone know how to get these letters to stop? Phone calls, and letters to them don't seem to work.

Not at all. Setanta want your money. It is pretty expensive imo.

Registered letter them ordering them to remove your details from all their databases per the data protection act.

I dunno where you got your info from widescreen, but Setanta will NOT be broadcasting 30 game on Saturday at 3pm on Setanta Ireland. They will only be putting out 12 games on Setanta Ireland at 3pm on Saturdays. The other 67 game(they have rights for 79 in total) will be broadcast on Setanta 1 which is not free on any of UPC's packages.

    Hi Watty,
Can you explain what the above quote means ....
I dont have a SKY sub but have a sky box and dish, I would like to get Setanta but dont want to have to pay sky 21.50 per month just to get setanta at 18 per month ..
Is there a way to get Setanta without sky sub (i have not probs paying setanta), chorus is not digital in my area (i cancelled the analogue service, not very good to put it mildly) ...
    Regards
    T

Yeah, just contact Setanta and they can issue you with a viewing card and all you will be doing then is paying Setanta the €18 a month.

    Their number is 0818 20 30 40

FYI for those on NTL cable, just got a letter from NTL saying that you can get the 8 channel Setanta premium pack for €10 per month.
