Problem with DVB tuner card - Avermedia A700

    Hi all,

maybe somebody can help me with this one:

I bought an AverMedia A700 (PCI Hybrid DVB-S and TV and FM card).
I installed the drivers + software from the disk and when I try to use the AverTV software or
any other software like ProgDVB for example,
The exe crashes and gives up details as ntdll.dll - I did a few searches and came up empty until today:

Now I have to try this when I get home as it may help:

    Update for Windows XP (KB896626)
    Brief Description
An issue has been identified with your Windows-based system that may cause problems when a DirectShow TV tuner program is tuned to receive a Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) video stream on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?amp;displaylang=en&familyid=14CAAF6D-198C-4197-82AD-28251F9C50A5&displaylang=en

in fact, it will almost definitely fix my problem.

but I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with similar problems. Also does anyone have any recommended (preferrably open source)
software for use a DVR/PVR for DVB-s ?? I know about MythTV but I'm not considering Linux for a while. also I'd like to be able to stream the video from the card across the network. I'm nearly sure this is possible but does anybody have any ideas?

    Any help is much appreciated.

btw I also bought the cheaper of two similar products (link 2) on komplett.ie - here are the links for both. they're both A700 as far as I know so I was wondering why one is cheaper than the other? Perhaps a clerical error?

Well first thing I would have done is not use the drivers on the CD and download the latest versions which can be gotten from this link. The patch from Microsoft may help as well.

You might want to check out some of the stuff from DVB Portal's project page for software. GB-PVR and Media Potal both support DVB-S so those are also worth trying out. I think GB-PVR can stream across a network to the VLC player but not sure on that.

As for the two cards probably labelling error one could be DVB-S only and the other is DVB-S + Analogue tuner.

Tried that already. uninstalled the drivers last night, got the ones from your link above and still no joy. I hope the MS update does the trick.

Ah that is possibly true but mine is definitely an analogue tuner so unless the DVB-S only one is more expensive?? Anyway doesn't matter once I get it working I don't care :-D

I saw that GB-PVR while doing a bit of surfing today. I'll give it a go. thanks for the help

ah well. Windows update didn't solve the problem. I have a feeling it should be handy enough to fix.... I hope... for now gonna try media portal and GB-PVR.

Now I have to try this when I get home as it may help:
    *******************************************************

Download the latest beta drivers from Avermedia . Download this batch file for a Hauppage Nova-s and run it . If it doesnt work you can uninstall it . I did this and now my A700 works flawlessly . Hope it works for you too . I think the Hauppage and the A700 use the same philips chipset . The batch file is here http://www.hiillos.org/data/zip/mcenova.zip

    Good Luck

Davil did you manage to get the card working?

While I'm here i need some advice from other forum members - I'm looking at buying the same card from Komplett for a slimline Dell XPS - I presume that because it's a low profile card it will fit but if anyone has experience of this then I'd be grateful for advice.
Also, I want to use the card for capturing old Hi8 camcorder video into DV format so I can edit and turn into DVD format - will this card allow me to do this?
    TIA.

Er yeah it works fine in vista but it's a bit crashy in XP... not as crashy as it used to be mind you.... I'd use vista but it's a big pile of steaming cack.... one windows crash and then my bios started claiming raid errors. I like my raid therefore I not like Vista... anyway.... cake is nice. and that's more important.

Good to hear you got it working - shame about the 'crashyness' under XP - I don't want to get Vista so I'm hoping performance under XP will be bearable.
Have you tried analog video capture using the the s-video input on the card? If you have, does the card generate the data in DV format (i.e an AVI file) or just MPEG2 format?
    TIA

    - Do you still have this board working in XP?

    - I'm specially interested in Media Portal Integration of this board. As anyone done so? If so, could you give me some guidence?

    - I have the board working on XP, but when I use the "AverTV" software that came with the board, it will crash when searching for Satellite channels.
    - I've downloaded the latest drivers for it but still the crash happens after a while performing the automatic channel search.

    - On ProgDvb application my problem is the Diseq satellite change. It doesn't seem to work.

    regards

I'll have another look as I had it working after a while in XP. it was still a bit crashy I think in AverTV but I had it working with some other software (not progdvb) that I can't remember the name of but I'll find out (It even recorded properly!) but I also hear a lot of buzz on forums about DVBViewer - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVBViewer so I dunno. I have sky+ now anyway so I don't use it except maybe as a WDM capture card for the composite line. I might put it in an older machine and stick MYTHTV on it as I have said before but it is unlikely as I am awful lazy! anyway I'll have a look when I get home and post up some more info.

I see people are still having problems with this card . Mine has worked flawlessly since implementing the fix i posted in #5 . However one thing i havent resolved is getting this thing to work with Mediaportal or GB-PVR .

    Regards to All

    Hi Guys,

Have purchased the A700 card. Have been unable to pickup any Stations. Anyone any pointers on the setup to use? Satellite? LNB settings? etc. I can tune FM radio thats about it. Spent 4 hours last night trying to pick up satellite. The dish used to be connected to a sky box so im assuming its pointed correctly outside.

    REgards,

    Alan.
