What's difficult about it? Just double click on the installer, follow the instructions. Or open the dmg file and drag the app to the Applications folder. Couldn't be simpler.

    Maybe it's the software?

Windows software doesn't run under Mac OS, you'll need an emulator or the Mac version.

As Sad Professor said it's usually either an installer or you drag it to the applications folder.

What software are you trying to install?

Winamp won't run natively on a Mac (possibly not at all). Why don't you give iTunes a try? I hated it on my old PC but I like the way it integrates with the Mac.

Installing stuff on a Mac is generally much easier than on Windows, you usually just drag the application to the applications folder (some programs use an installation program similar to the one on Windows, but they're in the minority). Uninstalling can sometimes be a pain though, there's often preference files and the like left behind (Windows has this problem too). A program called AppDelete should sort that for you.

Oh, and that MacUpdate site I've linked to there is an excellent resource for Mac software, both free and commercial. All the software's verified before it's indexed, and you can see what other people had to say about it. VersionTracker operates a similar system. It's much easier than trawling the web when you want to find a program.

He said: "Alright people, I would really appreciate a helping hand on this one." He got three responses, all explaining the standard installation procedure, one seemingly offering additional help if needed ("What software are you trying to install?") and my own offering other tips that he might find useful. While he wasn't using txt speak, txt speak can lead to a ban on most forums on boards

Actually, it's quite a jump for most windows users.

eurotrotter, when you open a dmg file, it will create a Volume on your desktop.
Open this and drag the App that it contains into your applications folder.
Eject the volume from the desktop and delete the dmg file.
Run the app from the Applications folder.

    Just to add,

Conversely to uninstall an application you can simply drag the app to the trash can and empty trash.
