I was goin to post this as just a question in a reply to another thread but my curiosity got too big not to spoil their thread

first off I've not got a provisional yet but

last summer just before my 25th I was lookin to get a bike and was all set to get a cbr 250rr got a quote off aon and it was 1800 not to bad I said but the chap said wait till I'm over 25 and it'll be cheaper so I said how much and he said 900 ok I'll wait I says!!

never got the bike after but was thinkin bout gettin one again and was lookin at a cbr600 this time restricted to 250 so got on to quinn who I've 2 car policies with and they refused to cover me on it or even the cbr250 as I'd need 2 years ncb or level 2 of some rider training course!!

question is what can I get now??

I'm a big chap and I'd make the cbr250 look like a mini moto never mind somethin smaller

First off, restriction doesn't lower the CC of a bike. But rather the output power of the bike, down to 33BHP. (or 25KW or .16kw per Kg of the bike) Now, you would be best going with Aon for your first year. You'll be hard pushed to get quotes from the other two (carol Nash and Quinn) What age are you now? You'll find Aon will quote you different every time you ring them  . So try again. It might be cheaper.

Just make sure if your going for a CBR 250rr, that its Vin/Frame number starts with MC22. This is found on the neck of the steering column. You may also find that its not been taxed in a long while. So best go to the gards and have it Declared as being of the road from its last tax date to the current date you are taxing it.

I'm 25 almost 26 and first bike that came to mind after the 600 was interceptors cbr250 I dunno if it's still for sale though!!

what does restricting do then that makes 600s etc insurable??

on the cbr its all thru the electrics (i think) with carbed bikes, it restricts the air/fuel going into the cylinders (again i stand to be corrected)
I started on a cbr250, as was said go for a mc22 and loved it, the only thing I can say bad about it, is that as it is your first bike, you will drop it, we all do, well the majority of us do it, and you dont want to crack the fairing on it
I cant stand bandits but they are great for beginners and take a good bit of abuse, but its all up to user preference

Best of luck with whatever you go for

Oh and ring aon again, they are in the middle of adjusting their figures, a friends policy went down by 400 without having to threaten to leave
My 2 years ncb is up in about 3 months and Ive been quoted 900 on a restricted cbr600, at the moment, Im paying just under 1k for a 600 transalp
Quinn may not quote you but that doesnt stop you telling aon that they have

well if it was still 900 for the cbr250 and they'd actually insure me I'd go for it wouldn't even mind dearer but just the run around with quinn direct annoyed me a bit!!

know I'm goin to drop it aswell but still want somethin to sit on would be afraid on a nsr or the like!!

also can't stand bandits and there is a lot of them about down ere anyway!!

but what can I look at??

Whats your budget really? You can pretty much get any bike restricted. But I'd only go as far as a 650 or 695 Ducati monster. Anything more will just be a waste of a bike

Again its up to your budget and if you will be quoted on it. The CBR250's are good starters. Lots of power and easy to handle. But as said, you will more than likely drop it. But not to worry, places like Tyga Performance do great fearing replacement kits.

    I've bout 3 grand!!

    I'm sort of confused really!!

last year it was as easy as get the 250 I was lookin at then ring aon and drive er on!!

I'm more interested in a physically bigger bike now though and yeah I'd like the more power bit aswell but to get me started on and drive a few times a year I just don't want it to be complicated or is it just that quinn are makin it complicated??

The grade 2 that they wanted you to do, is a Aon skills assessment test. It is optional. Dont bother with Quinn till you have some NCB. But by then an other company call Ebike will be on the market. Well you see the budget limits you. So get something to learn on and get your full license on. Then think of the bigger bikes.

Also remember that the insurance company may insist the bike be factory restricted as opposed to shop restricted, supposedly the shop restrictor is easily removed but i'd know nada about that.

bought Interceptors cbr250 a few weeks back, great little machine, was going to get a vfr750 before that and get it fitted with a restrictor - couldn't get insured with Carol Nash on it because i had no NCB & AON would only accept a factory restricted bike.
