I am just a regular joe. No business or anything.

How do you go about claiming anything from the govenment?
I have a reciept for say anything... how can you try and charge back to your tax credits.

    Any help.......

Have a look at revenue.ie for details on your entitlements. If you are a PAYE worker then you are not gonna get much out of it, rent, medical expenses, waste charges are the main ones, mortgage/health insurance costs are all allowed at source so no need to claim.

If you are self-employed then get yourself a good accountant and you can write a huge variety of costs off as business expenses......

Go look at the revenue website, figure out what you are entitled to, fill out the forms, send them off and keep the receipts somewhere safe. I wouldn't advise you claiming things you aren't entitled to. The penalties are fairly severe. That and no one on here will help you do this, or at least it's not allowed.

Upon speaking to friend about this in person he recomended this:

    https://www.reachservices.ie

Everybody knows the revenue.ie is not exactly user friendly.

Revenue have recently issued a document on a bunch of entitlements that people haven't been claiming - private (as opposed to Corpo) rent, work clothes for certain jobs (teachers were one, I remember), union dues, etc.

As, your local people-standing-for-office; they should be eager to help you at this particular time.

On the contrary, I think it's a very imformative and honest site, the same goes for the call centre. Give them a call, you may be surprised

    Examples?

After a quick call and a subsequent email I recieved a cheque(s) for €1800, this was over-payment of tax for one reason or another, this was while I was PAYE. I don't know your details so you may be entitled to nothing

There was a thread about people who successfully claimed money back after sending an email, can't find it now though, nesf might have a link..

Reach is just a different portal and is a fairly slow site. You need to register etc .You can get your info quite easily on the revenue site and fill in the forms (eg Med1) on paper and post it off - it's just as easy to be honest.

It's handled quicker if you go the online route in my experience. I've had to apply for a P21 two years running. Last year, I used the postal route and the whole process took about 2 months, I used the online route this year and it took about a week.
