Going on Wednesday, left it a bit late, but is there anyway to get one when I arrive. I'm Kerry, and leaving from here so won't be able to pick up in Dublin or elsewhere. In Germany as far as I know it's normally a much more complicated procedure than here. So has anyone ever picked one up on a visit. Not that important and wouldn't pay a premium.
    thanks

You can buy the main networks in mobile shops. Take your passport. They registered me at my home address - I was rather surprised that the Vodafone Germany website had a full UK postcode search.

It would be worth looking at various mvno SIMs though, and I don't know if for example Blauworld (excellent international rates) is available in shops. Sunsim and a new one Youni look cheap for Germany, and could be used with calling cards or other callthrough

Info on networks and tariffs at http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/germany.html

If you end up with one of the main operators, note that 0800 calls are free in most cases, so calling cards might be possible. This would need quite a bit of research though, as some of the cheapest are blocked
