usb drive problem

I have a hifi with a usb port and I bought a Sandisk 2gb drive with the hope of using it in my laptop and the hifi. Funny thing is that the drive has stopped working with the hifi. The most curious thing I find is that it worked no problem at the start, then gradually songs would stop in mid play and now it can't read it…

I can't understand this gradual refusal to play....I tried an older Disgo 512mb and it worked no problem....anyone have any ideas why its developed a slow dislike to the Sandisk?
