Ola guys! Hopefully someone can help me out with this...

For a long time now i've been toying with the idea of gettin my labret pierced. My problem is piercings though....

I've had my lobes done 4 times (all seperate cuz each time they eventually got badly infected and had to be removed a year or so later), and the top of my ear done twice which also resulted with them becoming infected and having to be removed. Currently I have no piercings but really wud like a little neat labret piercing.......Am I possible allergic to piercings??? Oh and what's the smallest size piercing you can get for that particular area?

(sorry to bombard you guys wif a million questions!)

    cheers x

To pierce or not to pierce? Bit of a no brainer round these parts.

Where your ears pierced with a gun or needle. Piercing with a gun can lead to horrible infection and rejection. Where you cleaning them daily once pierced? Negligence can also lead to infections. Don't bother getting pierced if you're not going to put in the after care.

Allergic to piercings? More than likely no, you may have been using cheap jewelry in your ears and you may have been allergic to that. Any reputable piercer with pierce you (especially a labret) with surgical steel.

Not sure about sizes but you can ask the piercer when you're getting it done.

I was also wondering if you were pierced with a gun. I have had many piercings and the only one that noticably ****ed up was my gunned cartilage piercing. :(

Infections are completely different from allergies. All the allergic reactions to jewellery I've had usually result in my piercing getting swollen, red, and itchy as all hell- but without a discharge and actual pain which is the sign of an infection. Easily solved with titanium jewellery so if it's an allergic reaction you're worried about make sure you're going to a good piercer and let them know that you're worried about it. Infections can be avoided by getting pierced with a needle, and taking good care- unfortunately most places that use guns will also usually give terrible advice regarding aftercare.

Basically, what Shazbot ^ said :)

great advice guys! thanx a mill....

To answer your questions yes I was pierced with a gun but the last time i had my lobes done it was with titanium jewellery and i was extra extra carefull about cleaning them and makin sure my hair didn't get wrapped around it cuz that has caused them to get infected before.

I suppose I just gotta be carefull about which jewellery I use, and that it's worth payin for good quality stuff.....lesson learned I think!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I had always assumed that there was a big difference between an infection and a bad reaction to a piercing?

AFAIK when a piercing becomes infected it's due to bacteria getting into an open wound, and a bad reaction is due to your body rejecting the piercing as a foreign body. Are you sure your were infected?? Could it just have been a bad reaction. Granted a bad reaction which causes sweeling etc can lead to an infection as it makes the piercing harder to clean properly.

well what does a bad reaction consist of? pus? a scab? bleeding? or is that an infection? ahhh!!!!

i can see your point tho, if my body rejected the piercing wud there be any point in gettin my labret done?

but if it was me being careless any piercing cud get infected?
