    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0237534/

Genre-bending French film, that's part period drama, part martial arts action, part horror, part mystery, but it pulls it off incredibly well, in one coherent vision.

Wow, my first nomination and it gets chosen.

Excellent movie, loved it. Mark Dacascos should be in more movies. It had a brilliant cast, very stylish. It's worthy of film of the week.

In my opinion it is probably the best French film ever made (and yes I have seen the likes of Leon, Nikita, Belleville Rondez-Vouz, Ridicule, Irreversible, Le Haine etc.). Its the movie that got me into French film. Ive never seen so many genres merged together so convincingly, from martial arts, romance, black comedy and mystery.
I cannot recommend this film enough.

Pretty good movie, that fight scene @ the start in the rain was so awesome. Really liked Vincent Cassel in it

Excellent movie, very hard to pigeon-hole it into one genre, it reallly has a bit of everything. Well deserved movie of the week!

Havent heard much about this film until now. Not a big fan of the macho fantasy genre, which I had assumed this had fallen into just based on the name alone (I know - never, book, cover, etc...)

But if it is FotW, I may be inclined as to check it out. If I see it on TV or on the cheap Ill check it out.

Just watched this last night. Pretty good alright, although a bit too long. The plot was pretty predictable but as already said the mixing of genres was excellent. Great fight scenes.

Also, did Fronsac come back to life at the end? Or was he drugged and just appeared dead?

I didn't really know what to expect from this when i rented it a couple of years ago, and was thoroughly satisfied with my choice. As stated before it covers a multitude of genre's without making a mess of the plot. A great little find which i highly recommend

I should have said where he's given good material too. Truth is I have alot of tem crappy movies and he is by far the best thing in them. Another 2 of his better movies are "Drive" and "Crying Freeman", a live action Manga movie by the same director of Brotherhood of the Wolf.

I just watched this tonight and thought it was very mediocre. Just the usual boring action sequences strung together by uninteresting character interaction and a story that failed to captivate.

I don't really get the admiration of the fact that it brought in a multitude of genres...who cares when the film isn't doing any one of them particularly well? Just seemed to me that they tried to fill it up with all these different stylised elements, but in the end it just muddles up the whole delivery.

There were parts I liked, but overall it just didn't do it for me.

    3/5
