    Hi folks

I do a little bit of work here and there with a local newspaper, its not always possible to have my 20D on me at all times, so im looking for a little compact that i can have in my pocket when im out and about, and for doing the general people in pubs shots that invariably fill local papers of this type.

I know this is probably all covered in the sticky above me, but i dont have the time to trawl through it all at the moment.
    Thanks for any help

I was in a similar situation. I was looking for a small camera that I could stick in my pocket, it’s not always convenient to be lugging a SLR with lenses and what not around all the time.
So I had looked at three cameras

    Leica Compact D-Lux 3

really really nice bit expensive tho. no optical viewfinder

    Canon PowerShot G7

expensive too has a X6 lens bit slow Very good photographs from it, but no RAW support, don’t know if that’s going to be an issue or maybe Canon will change their minds on that and update it.

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2K

Nice camera no optical viewfinder, Doesn’t handle noise well

heres some reviews that I looked at

I'd take a look at the Canon G7 as mentioned above or the new Nikon P5000.

G7 pretty big, go for one of the ultra compacts, something with a depth <20mm. Canons probably best

I played about with the G7 - It's not tiny, but would easily fit in a pocket, and has a load of features. It's pretty much a 400D sized down.

    Was quite impressed.

    EDIT:

    And for comedy value...

Heh. I have the G7/580EX combo. Though I haven't used the 580EX yet!

I concur with the recommendation for the G7 though I find it tricky to hold. It works better for me when I'm using the lens adapter with it but I suppose that defeats the purpose of having a compact camera.

I had the same problem so I bought the Samsung NV10
    It's an absolute gem!
    So easy to use.
    Great quality images.

This is one example. (Size massively reduced. Original is 3648 x 2736)

Just to let you know ,I was on pixmania there and seen the G7 for 430 euro. It seems to be a lot dearer on other sites.

I got the NV10 for €270 on eBay (incl. postage)
Saw it in Jessops for €400 last Friday.
It's big attraction is the fact that you can charge the battery off your USB port.

Also bought an EOS 400D for €610 off that seller.
    Very prompt delivery.
