Ok first all im not asking how i crack a satellite signal ..

im just curious of technologies used.

AFAIK in Ireland & UK getting pirated satellite TV is a thing of the past,
ever since SKy started to use (i think RSA 128 bit encryption -- maybe im wrong here) .. they spent a lot of money getting an uncrackable system and
i havent heard of anyone getting free tv from Sky in the UK or Ireland.

I live in Spain and lots of people can get all the CANAL + movie/Sport channels for free , by getting pirated codes from the net ?
I would have thought CANAL+ would have adopted the same system SKY uses ..
anyone know if they use a ****ty security system ?
Im not trying to find out how its done! so please don't ban me ..
im just curious about what security SKY v CANAL+ use ...

It actually annoys me .. the reason subscriptions are so high is because of all these freeloaders ...

PM me if this post gets moved/ deleted ... cheers ..

Subscriptions were high long before the system was hacked so i dont know how you arrive at this conclusion. Sky tv from the Uk has not been hacked and would hardly be described as being cheaper than other comparable broadcasters in Europe

That doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done though.

Given that Canal+ in France have already tried to sue NDS, there isn't much likelihood of that. As for pirated codes, the past history of Thoic and ITV Digital may give you some hints as to who the source might be.

It's alleged a certain company with alleged very secure cards tried to put all the competition cards (and some operators) out of buisness by paying a lab to reverse engineer the competing products.

ITV digital/On Digital went bust due to 3 things
    * Too few channels compared to Sky
    * Paying too much for sport
    * Huge (30%?) Piracy due to actions alleged above.

Two Itallian operators where bought by the company alleged to be doing this, As part of the deal to pay what they where worth BEFORE the cards cracked, Canal+ had to agree to drop court case against NDS.

See who owns Sky & NDS?

This is all alleged. I have no opinion. I'm only repeating baseless rumours that could all be lies.

Strangely, possibly due to near monoploly, Sky UK/Ireland is one of the most expensive packages in Europe.
