    Morning all,

My m8 has an Ibook and the machine's dead, and im wondering is it possible to recover the data using a standard windows machine...

ie, is the hard drive on the ibook a standard laptop harddrive, can i just use the ide converter and a hfs utility to recover information?

    thanks

That pretty much depends on what exactly you are asking?

The iBook is dead? what does that mean?

    Does it power up?

    Does it boot up?

    Does the HDD spin?

Your question is a little too vague. If the HDD does spin then you should have no trouble recovering the data.

If it does not? then have a look at this post:

The disk is fine, the system board is messed on the machine and i don't have another ibook to put the disk into.

so what i want to know is if i put the disk into a windows/intel based machine will i be able to retrieve documents from it using a standard hsf reader?

You can get a USB to IDE connector in Maplin & one of the ones they stock has an adapter for laptop drives too. It allows you to plug your laptop drive directly into any USB port on any PC, it picks it up just like a pen drive & will allow you to do whatever you like with the data. I think they're around €40.

The other option is to put the drive into a 2.5 caddy.
