Hi Folks, I’m looking for a bit of help setting up my Media Centre box with Chorus Digital?
My setup is I have a Monster scart svideo/audio adapter plugged into the Chorus STB and an s/video and audio cables going into my Haupaugge 150 pvr TV card.
My LiveTV picture is very washed out and a bit grainy, some channels are better than others but none are as good as the signal going straight from the Chorus box to the TV.
I don’t have a TV with a s-video input that I could plug the cable directly into so as to test whether it’s the cabling is the problem?
Is there a way of setting the output signal from the Chorus STB to s-video?
Is there anyone else using Chorus digital having the same problem?

    Thanks
    Chris

    Is this the adapter ?

If so all those small scart adapters do is output composite video over the s-video connection which may explain the picture quality.

In order to get the scart signal converted 'properly' you need a scart RGB to s-video converter, Maplins sold them though I can no longer find the link on their website.

Yeah thats the one alright, I originally ordered one of those SCART Output to s-video input leads off www.s-video.com back in January and it never arrived. I'll try Maplins and let you all know how it works.

    Thanks

    Would that explain the following?

Using the connector with Chorus digital stb my output signal is coming from S-Video using an S-Video cable and connecting to an s-video input on a tuner card. In order to get any sort of picture quality I had to set the switch on the adapter to composite which really confused me becasue I was not using the composite connection! The adapter obviously passes composite through the S-Video connection.
I am reasonably happy with picture quality (could be better) but I do not want to purchase another device that needs to be plugged in! I am rapidly running out of power sockets: PC, STB, Speakers, Broadband modem, and eventually an IP phone!!

You could always just buy a bigger power socket it's not like they are expensive.

I have only ever seen 3 of those scart RGB to s-video converters and all needed power maybe there are ones out there that don't but I can't say with certainty.
