    yeah seems like good value
i just posted about this camera in the other lidl digital camera thread
you need to add vat to your link
    regualr link
    http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/356535/art/pentax/optio-m20.html

lots of cameras on pixmania for around 100 seem good value

Yeah I knew that about the vat, I just worked it out in my head that it came in at just under 100. So its A few cent over 100! Oh well, still a really good price. Its a great camera!

Ordered one with a 1Gb card & case for €125. Thanks lads, this looks like a really nice camera for the money. Was quite surprised at how well it compared when I checked against other models on pixmania. How compact is it HungryJoey? Like will it fit in your pocket comfortably?

Need a camere but wouldn't know a good one from a bad. May aswell go for this one. Have a few questions regarding the packages they have with it.

Whats the difference between the pixmania memory card and the Ultra 66 one?
What's the Hama "30 in 1" usb 2.0 memory card reader for?

So you can read the pictures on your PC direct from the memory card rather than having to plug in the camera.

    Hi,

I'm being prompted for a Vat number/Company names when using the following link.

    http://www.pixmania-pro.com/ie/uk/35...407&srcid=2716

If I just put in my own contact details - it loops back to the enter VAT number screen.

The 2nd link http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/356535...optio-m20.html seems to work ok.
Price works out at approx 114.40 Euro inc vat & postage.

Its still a nice price but is this the price that everyone is getting ?

    Regards,

    Fuzion

What is the video quality like guys as I would like to have to do without getting a camcorder for all those majic moments:).
    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭HungryJoey

Video is quite good. Records at 640x480 which is fine for most purposes and at 30 FPS so its quite smooth. Zooms in and out plenty too without affecting the sound at all.. I know ive seen a few cameras that the sound when recording stops while you zoom in and out where as this doesn't. My samsung 6MP cam does that :(

Good camera I must say especially at that price!

    @ Imeatingchips ^^; Huh ?

Enjoy! Make sure you either have a nice SD card waiting for it or you plan on buying one. I personally have 2GB cards in my cameras. But these images are up to 3MB per picture thats how large they are.

I was looking for a 7MP camera myself and was about to get the one on iBood today but Pixmania's offering is too good to pass up.

    Thanks guys.
One more question. Can you charge the camera by plugging it directly into the mains i.e. no requirement to take out batteries etc.

I hate review sites! I came across this review which isnt very complimentary:

    http://www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/pentax-optio-m20.cfm

Now, when you compare this to steves-digicams where it is placed in the best cameras in the range it is really confusing :(

    Edit: BostonB: Any suggestions?

Basically its good for the price. Since it about the cheapest thing you can get. Thats all some people care about.

For me even as a basic camera it would annoy me for two reasons. Shutter lag, (biggest annoyance with digital cameras) and the hit and miss nature of the image quality. I don't mind if every so often you get a bad photo, I'm not great with a camera myself. But if every 2 out of 3 photos you take are bad then it just is pointless. At that point cheap turns to bad value for money IMO. This is what happened to me when I got my first cheap digital camera. I think unless IQ isn't a priority, (party camera or one for the car etc) then you need to look at the shutter speed and then the sample photos. Forget about pixel size. Using AA batteries is more useful than mega pixels.

    http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutter-lag-comparisons.cfm

If it was me I'd stretch to a Sony DSC-S600/Sony DSC-S650 or one of the Canon Powershots. But check out all the sample photos across a few sites and see what you like.

Cheers BostonB, I have been looking at the powershot a550 for a while and I might go for that one.

Did anybody who ordered this actually get it? I was very tempted but I've heard so many horror stories about Pixmania.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭skywalker

Yep, I got it after about 48 hours, no problems.

Just to warn you. I placed my order on Monday thinking I'll have it before the weekend, especially since all items were in stock.

After being told that the order was being prepared on Tuesday I was disappointed but could deal with a one day delay. No more updates were given to me so on Wednesday I sent an email through the website to check on the status of my order.
I got 2 replays to further questions and was informed that my order had been dispatched with DHL at 5.30pm on 30st May. This was a blatant and utter lie and the parcel was still being prepared and a quick phone call to DHL confirmed that the parcel had not been picked up.

On Thursday I sent yet another query to Pixmania with exactly the same response as the day before...another lie. Not until 16.15pm on Friday the 1st of June was the order finally sent by Pixmania with DHL.

All this meant that I wont have my camera for heading on holidays and I'm going to have to arrange for someone to pick it up from DHL.

Maybe it was my fault for being naive enough to think theyd honour their agreement. Whatever the case I won't be ordering off them again due their customer service department telling me complete rubbish.

Well I got mine five days after ordering and that was with a weekend and a European public holiday intervening, so I can't complain and it really is a good piece of kit.
