I only access NTL broadband with wireless router from home in the evenings between 7 and 12. As I don't use it the rest of the time I see it as pointless to have both running for 24 hours a day, could I plug both out at night and leave off until the following evening or would that be a very unwise thing to do?

good idea, the eircom wifi roupter uses about 15watts, you could run 2 cfl bulbs for that

I now blame eircom wifi routers for Global warming.

    Ha!
I find you need a 21W CFL for decent light. And they dim with age.

    No issue with IP.

But if your ip is dynamic (and not static) then it may change when the modem is switched back on, isn't that right?

Sad Professor- it might.. but if it's dynamic, it will change every couple of days anyway even if the modem is always connected.

One piece of advise I would give is that when switching it back on is plug the modem in first wait till its locked on, then start the router wait till that’s ready, then your computer.

Sometimes doing it any other way or switching them all on together can cause you not to get an IP address straight away.
