Does anyone know of any decent forrest walks in Galway (preferably close to the city but not a nesscessity)
I know of Portumna Woods Forrest walks which I think are brillliant, several trails which range in times to complete and are quite picturesque too.
I was hoping someone might know of some closer to the city, for example theres a Woods in Monivea right at the end of the town that has a semi walkable trail, as does the Woods on the outskits of Clarinbridge...Both that I know are supposed to be managed by Coillte...looks like they haven't visited the sites in quite some time...
Anyways if theres any good long forrest walks out there let me know!

Hiya, I’m afraid the range of forest walks in Galway is not the best. But the ones that come to mind are Barna Woods, on the coast road. Renville Woods, a few miles past Oranmore. Coole Park, just this side if Gort. The ones in Monivea and Clarenbridge also. I know there are some Forests on the road to Attenry, but I don’t know about trails. There are some small woods in the grounds of Merlin park Hospital. And at the back of the Glass Factory, both these are just inside the city. And the last I can think of is Castlehackett,
in Corofin. This is a nice walk thru some old woods. It is about 10 miles outside Galway, on the way to Tuam.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, knew of most o them except the Castlehackett one so might have to give that a go,if you haven't been to the Portumna woods you should really go,an hours drive but its class, theres 3-4 different coloured routes to follow, its more of an orienteering challenge than a walk lol.
