I have to get my trial holes dug for the perlocation test the weekend.

I was given a rough idea of what's required but is there a more detailed spec out there so I don't mess it up.

Are you doing the testing yourself and if so will the council accept an assessment from you?

The guy who is handling my planning application is doing the actual test. He wants me to dig the holes and get ready for him to do the test the weekend.

He said something along the lines of. 1 big hole in the middle. 2.1m deep dug with a 2' digger bucket. And either side of that take a scraping with the bucket and hand dig 300mm x 300mm square hole.

I'd like to be sure I'm digging them to spec before I start into it

The large trial hole will be 2.10 deep and around 1 metre square at the bottom.

The smaller holes are better dug a couple of metres away from the larger hole and you can dig them to a depth of 400mm

In line with current EPA guidelines the holes required are as follows:

Trial Hole: Minimum depth of 2.0m and as small in plan as is possible
T-Hole (2 required): 1200x1200x1200 with a 400x400x400 sump dug at the bottom. The 1200 dimension may vary depending on the slope of the site and the consequent proposed invert level of the percolation pipework
P-Hole: Not always necessary except in cases where there in insufficient subsoil available to treat the effluent. In any case dig two sumps 400x400x400 at surface level.

Trial hole should be open for 24-48 hours prior to test being carried out.

    Hope this helps.
