Browsed the forum but I cant seem to find any reference to public courses or courses with reasonable priced membership in the Kildare area (eg under 2g cant justify paying more for the amount I play)
Anybody have any names of courses in the area worth checking?

    Thanks in advance!

    J

i used to play the R+R in dungrange a bit a couple of years back, not kept well and can be crazy busy, but some tricky holes. and of course it was dirt cheap. It's on the road between dunboyne and maynooth.

also the second course at bodenstown is public, again v busy. and highfield always seem to be loking for members at cheap prices.

R + R is a handy enough course. Its dirt cheap but you get what you pay for, cos its not kept incredibly well. There is plenty or evidence of work that was begun and not completed. ie. empty water hazards, half full water hazards that are not kept well, two random concrete sheds that are an awful eyesore, and random piles of rubble located around the course.

Im from that area and as regards membership goes the only cheap place i can find is the first course at Bodenstown, however i was warned off joining by former members as the owner has got a bad reputation. Interesting to note that the second course at Bodentown (Ladyhill) is kept in a similar manner to R + R and i've been told that the same guy owns R + R and Bodenstown.

Membership in Bodenstown is closed this year but will be open again in November for around 1700 yoyo's.

Membership at highfield is 3500, I've been there a couple of times this year and the course is nice enough but again there is a lot of evidence of work started but not completed. The land in the area that the course is located is also very boggy. After a heavy rain everything gets soft. Other courses in this area have the same problem with rain, ie Edenderry and Knockanally. Dont get me wrong though i like all three courses. They are far superior to R + R and Ladyhill.

I think im in the same boat as you because ive been looking for a course to join but couldnt justify spending lots of money. As far as i can tell there are no other courses in the area that are under 5 G's to join. Millicent is 12, Woodlands is 7.5, Kileen is 9 (when a membership comes on the market). I've looked at a few others and cant remember the exact price but i know they were not right for me, these included Elm hall, Kilcock, and Naas.

Although they are too expensive to join a lot of these courses offer great value for green fees, Elm hall (9 holes), Woodlands, Kilcock, Highfield, and Edenderry, are all under 30 for a round, Edenderry is probably the pick of these courses. Millicent and Kileen are 35, both are incredible courses and its hard to pick a winner there.

FYI all green fees above are midweek.

I dont know if i will join Bodenstown next year or not because its a good course and great value for money but there is no smoke without fire. Im thinking of going down the country for a distance membership just to get a GUI handicap but i still wouldnt have a course to call my own.

Maybe if i won the lotto id join the K club!!

The Newbrdge Golf Club is usually pretty ok. You can just turn up and play without booking. It is down the college road.
