About 3 weeks ago my laptop asked me to update it, instead of clicking restart now, i clicked restart later and then did so manually about 20 minutes later. Ever since then though it has been on some TEMP login? does anyone know how to resolve this?

my files are saved like this:
    C:/DocumentsandSettings/TEMP/Desktop/txtfile.txt

when they should be something like this:
    C:/DocumentsandSettings/Darren/Desktop/txtfile.txt

Right-click on "My Document" in Explorer and go to Properties.
This contains the target folder for the "My Documents" virtual folder.
    You can set it there.

I did that but it doesnt help that I'm still logged onto the TEMP user even though I clicked on my username. It's a bit frustrating losing my work all the time because of this issue whenever it resets.

sounds like your user profile has corrupted since the updates were applied.
you could either system restore to before the updates were applied (if you are using xp) or create a new user account, log on with that, and copy your old files across into the relevant folders created for this new account from your old account if you have local admin rights to the machine....
