From what little I know, that seems like a solid enough build for the budget you have.

Someone here might question spending almost €100 on vista when it could be put to better use, but if you want it, then get it.

    Good luck with it.

    try to dump vista and get a e6320 or a 8800gts 320mb.

Windows XP OEM costs the same so it doesn't really matter if it's Vista or XP if he doesn't have a spare OS he can use.

On a budget that looks a decent system to me if you really wanted to shave a few bucks more off the price you could get an Intel 945 chipset and DDR-533 RAM but that would probably take €100 off the price at the minimal cost of 1-4% in performance.

hmm , i was goin to overclock the e4300 to 2.8-3ghz sand i know that the asus board is a nice overclocker,

as for the ram 104 euro for 2gigs of that is a steal imo

vista + 8600(to be Superclocked) is for Dx10 goodness

moniter is a 20-21 inch crt which my friend will be able to live with till he gets moar monies together

    What's the spec Deaf?

I spend at least half an hour each evening with the mouse hovering over the 'proceed to checkout' button on dabs.ie and memoryc.ie, about to blow a fair whack of my ssia. Just about built up a head of steam now - might take the plunge - tonight could be the night!!!!!

I'm such a nervous knickers when it comes to buying kit, can't understand it. I suppose it's different when your spending your own money!

why 2 raptors? I have a 75GB one myself and given the choice, I would have bought 2 larger drives and put them in RAID. Windows doesnt load that much faster and the seek noise can be a pain in the ass.

I will be putting both raptors in a RAID 1 raidset for the OS.

I considered 4 of the 500GB disks for a RAID 0+1 but the marketing leprechaun got to me and made me buy the raptors instead.
