An international driver's license must be obtained from your home country. This permit only verifies that you hold a valid license in your home country. It is your foreign driver's license that allows you to drive in the United States. Contact the authorities in your home country to get an international driving permit, as the United States does NOT issue international driver's licenses to foreign visitors.

If she's a full Irish drivers licence, she can drive. I've driven over there numerous times, got stopped by LAPD once and my drivers licence sufficed

Funnily enough although it seems technically she should need the IDL in practise it's never looked for. Like Flanzer i have hired a car in Vegas and know numerous people who have hired all over the States with just the full Irish license. Ask the hire-car company directly or if she's borrowing a friends car then make sure either her own or her friends insurance company are cool with it.

I have found that places like Hertz won't accept the IDL. Irish Licence is all that is required.

I drove over there and had to hire out a car and there was no problem at all with my Irish Licence. Was pulled over in Colorado aswell and nothing said about my licence at all. I say ye will be grand
