There's a spin on Sunday around the Wicklow mountains that may interest anyone training for the Wicklow 100/200...
    The Gerry Brannigan Memorial Randonne
    Sunday 29th April 2007 ( 115 km )

In memory and honour of fellow club member Gerry Brannigan who died in tragic circumstances last September, Orwell Wheelers are running the inaugeral Gerry Brannigan Randonne on Sunday 29th April. Starting from the Scout Den in Ballinteer the route and distance are aimed at providing everybody thinking of doing the Wicklow 200 with an ideal training spin.

The cost of entering on the day is only €15.

    Details:

8:30 a.m. riders sign in at the Scout Den in Ballinteer.
The den is behind the church in Ballinteer.

Riders will then take the following route:
Lamb Doyles to Stepaside and Enniskerry
Up the back road to Glencree
Left at the top of Glencree and on up to the top of Sally Gap
Down the long winding mountain road down past Glenmacnass waterfall to Laragh.
Over the Vale of Clara to Rathdrum
Rathdrumto Moneystown and then via Tomriland Cross Roads to Roundwood.
Roundwood up over the shoulder of Djouce mountain to Enniskerry
From Enniskerry back via Stepaside to Lamb Doyles and the finish at the Scout Den.
There will be a big mug of coffee and some snacks at the finish and a
pat on the back for a job well done.

I've had great difficulty finding that info.
Based on a 2003 county council meeting which mentions the Scout den and Hillview estate, I think that the den is off Broadford Road (the Satellite view shows the road entrance).
Use the DTO Journey Planner to get directions.

No, thats the wrong one.. (that one was burnt out and never rebuilt, its a lovely estate i live in!)
Ballinteer scout den is beside Ballinteer church, opposite Superquinn, which is at the other end of Broadford road, at the junction with Ballinteer Avenue (sorry, don't know how to do the map thing!)

    Near here?

The 'map thing' is something I wrote but you can go to Google Maps, pan and zoom around and then click the "Link to this page" link and copy the URL in the browser or right click on it and copy the URL.

I'll be there. Weather looks good. Good training for the 200 along with the next few spins, Leinster, Slievebloom etc.

Is it a race or just a "spin" like you said? I don't have any experience of these but want to go along at my own pace. I have my name down for the W200!

It'll be my first time going along to one of these events so I'm entirely sure how its run, but its definitely not race anyway...

Thanks for the reply Harkev. Will an 11:19 ratio cassette be OK? (do you think?) I left it too late to get a higher ratio cassette for tomorrow.
