Time to buy a macbook pro?

I'm waiting to upgrade and when I do I will be buying from the US but with the rates so good now I can get a macbook pro 15" for 1400ish. Do I go buy it now or are they planning on updating them soon? They seemed to have just gotten the core2duo update to match the macbooks now but is there a further update on the cards before the end of summer?

    Thanks

OOh ok. So will this be the event in June? Finally have the money and now I have to wait :(

Looks like it may be WWDC in June, yeah. If it's a minor upgrade it could be much sooner but the rumour is the MBPs may get the new Santa Rosa chipset and possibly a redesign. But it's Apple so who knows...

Just remember, there is always an "update soon". Sometimes it's months away for a major update, other times it's at least a year or two away for a major update, with more incremental updates in between.

So if you need it now, don't wait around and than be stuck without a good computer. If you don't care waiting possibly for a long time, you might as well see what's coming up.

    What he said.
Waiting for upgrades is like being stuck in an endless loop -- you'll always end up back where you started unless you cut yourself out of it.*
So upgrade if it suits your needs. You can always sell the machine for the next upgrade if you really have to.

    *note: I'm terrible at analogies

you'll never regret getting the mbp, so buy it while you save on the echange rate. Thats how i got mine and i've never made a more sensible move.

Well I have a perfect powerbook g4 running at the moment.. its just the ability to run autocad under windows xp. I've tried virtual pc but it won't even get past the install stage. Ah well.. I'm hoping to catch the upgrade on the cheap exchange rates so we'll see how long I can hold out.

What are the advantages of the santa rosa chip? New models with apple never go down well..always buggy thats why I thought it would have been a safe bet with ht mbp now as its been around for a while.

I don't really know anything about the santa rosa except it's new. tbh I still don't know what the difference was between the G4 and the G5. But I take it G5 was better :D

Anyway like Urban Weigl said there's always another update on the horizon so if you really need it now (or just want it now) then, of course, you should get it now. There's no point waiting on the basis of rumours of future products. But given that the MBP is at the end of it's current cycle you should consider waiting.

Well I suppose I can wait just a bit longer :D
