Three Ibanez 7s now? You're not going for the 8 after all?

Yeah, I'm kinda not too bothered. I may pick it up at some later stage, but I'm not going to be trying to grab it the second it comes out.

So that's what the big sale was funding. Why is it so rare?

Oh and congratulations by the way ;)

'Cos they didn't make a lot of them :p

Ah no, it was just made for one year in that particular spec, production numbers were pretty low. Not that its worth any more or less, just that you don't come across them very often.

I'd love to get an 8-stringer sometime, Meshuggah made them sound brilliant on Nothing, although, I'm not sure what else use they'd be besides metal, maybe fusion jazz, maybe I should play one first to decide, anyone see any shops stocking 8-stringers? :P

You've done it again Karl! Bought yet another guitar that I don't like but I'm sure you'll make very good use of.. next time buy a Danelectro!

If anyone's interested, the whole "Gentlemen..." bit I seem to always use to introduce gear is a reference to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, where Doctor Weird begins each episode with something, well, stupid. It usually never has anything to do with the following episode either. Anyway, Gentlemen... Behold!

    And the motherload:

Meh, the fundamentals are pretty much the same as with a 7 string. It's just one more string, and it's played the same way you play any other string, so essentially it could be put to use in any genre of music.

I'd actually like to see more use of guitars with more strings in other genres though, because like you've said, it seems Metal and Jazz are the only genres that 7+ string guitars see any use in. I mean, thinking of people who use 8 string guitars, Meshuggah and Charlie Hunter (Metal and Jazz, respectively) are the main ones that come to mind.

Maybe it's just the attitudes in the genre circles? A lot of it seems quite traditionalist. When was the last time you've seen blues played on something other than a Strat, never mind a 7 string?

Anyway, as for 8 Strings in shops... Don't think they're out yet, I think it's going to be next month. Musician Inc may perhaps get in one, they've had a decent selection of Ibanez 7s before, so they seem the most likely candidates when the day of release comes.

This is me here, what were you expecting? And no, I shalln't be buying a Danelectro any time soon, I'm sorry to say.

That's what I'm thinking, although I love the bluesy sound I can get out of my Fender Strat, it's been done to death really. I'm more into the 60s 70s type of rock, an as you can gather, Fender ran the game there. So instead of coming out and playing the same stuff I might be different and get me a 7 stringer, try and start a trend :D

Actually......................I wonder if Fender do 7-stringers....

    *searches Thomann*

    It's cheaper on www.guitarbargains.com

Generally, Thomann is quite overpriced with reguards to Ibanez. Shop around tbh. ;)

    That link is broken.

Oh, and by the way, I'm noticing that Thomann are being a lot less competitive now, I'm starting to buy things from the guitar shops again because they are cheaper/same price.

Ok, try here, that should work out more favourably compared to the Thomann price.

Well, I know Metal and Jazz were the only genres really using guitars with 7 or 8 strings, but here's a cool video of a guy using an 8 string resonator that might be of interest:
