    Hi,

Just about decided to buy a 1985 Toyota MR2. Before I hand over the cash, I want to check the chassis no matches the V5.Anyone know if the chassis no. on the car is in an obvious place or where it is.

Also will have to pay the dreaded VRT. I have always fancied one of these since they came out in the eighties but could never afford one (or justify one). Pricec are not too bad now but they all suffer from the dreaded tinworm. VRT office tell me they class it as a classic/collectable so VRT won't be too cheap.

Nice car! Not sure where the VIN Number is, but you can check the VRT on www.ros.ie just follow the link to the Online VRT Calculator. It won't qualify for the Classic CAR VRT of €50 until it's 30 years old - in 2015. The VRT(Highway Robbery!) shouldn't be anymore than a few hundred euros as the MR2 doesn't have a big engine. I imported a 1984 BMW 635CSI last year, the VRT was a whopping €1100 due to the fact it was a 3.5 litre auto!

    Thanks, DJ

The car isn't listed on their site so I am waiting for a call back from them on the VRT. Priced an '87 MR2 about a month ago & it was roughly €650 for rough, €850 for middle of the road & €1250 for a minter. The guy on the phone reckoned most cars would be between middle & mint. Hope an '85 which needs a little work will be a bit cheaper

:) Bought the MR2 last night. Its in pretty good condition but will need some work. Drove it 70 miles home last night with no problems other than the front wheels badly need balancing - over 50 & they wobble. Also some bushings gone. Hope to drive it for the summer & then sort out what needs doing on the bodywork. All MK1 MR2's (like all 80's Toyotas) suffer from wheelarch rot & one side ain't great. Probably rust in other places as well. Must get an Engineer's report from the Toyota main dealer next week for the insurance & also pay the dreaded VRT.

It has a recent MOT but I couldn't see it passing the NCT at the moment. Bushings would definitely need doing for the test plus a few other bits . The MOT must be a lot easier than out NCT.

    Pics later.
