they now have:

Johnny Cash: Half a Mile a Day (doc)
Spongebob Squarepants
Scooby Doo

So is this free?? Sounds great!

The update adds the following to the menus:

Adds 'Anytime TV' to the TV Guide menu (although it will take 1 week to get activated
Adds 'Auto Standby' in which the box will turn itself into standby overnight if not touched for 2 hours
Renames 'A-Z Listings' to 'Search A-Z'

It looks like it's Sky that picks the material available:
http://anytime.sky.com/about/tv.aspx

Once it doesn't mess up my own choices on Sky+, it's a nifty addition.

Do you need to have your phoneline connected on Sky+ to access material from the Anytime menu?
I only connect periodically as I do not have multiroom.

what happens if you're watching a long film and don't turn over during ad-breaks etc.???

You don't need your phone line connected to access Anytime and if you are watching a long movie the box will go into standby mode after 2 hours if no buttons are pressed, this is only between 11pm and 4am.

Maybe it's still downloading stuff and people get the lot at different times?

It looks good and once it doesn't mess up the normal sky+ I'm well happy - nice addon to have.
Would be even better if it 'learned' what you like and downloaded your prefs or similar...maybe it will in the future.

Also, at least the other half of the hdd disk space is being used now.

All-in-all, it's good!

Haven't got it on my box yet, though knew it was scheduled to be rolled out this week.

Still, it will be a nice extra feature for those with the newer Sky+ boxes (will not work on older Sky+)

Is this an extra service on top of the usual Sky+ sub, or is it a free add on?

It's a free add-on but only for those with the PVR3 Sky+ boxes (the ones that have 80GB HDD space reserved).

Any word on if it works with user-upgraded hard drives in older boxes?

AFAIK, it is only available to PVR 2.5's and 3's
I have a 250gb Samsung in mine and it works okay.

Have a look over at Digital Spy http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35

According to DS, TIVO-like functionality (in that it should learn what you record and download other similar stuff) is coming in 2008.

Now that would be interesting, though a phoneline would need to be connected for info on the stuff you record to be uploaded.

For my info, since there's no charge and no adverts, how do Sky make money out of it?

Come back and ask that same question in a couple of months time I'd guess. :o

All of the Anytime shows I've played at work (admittedly only 3 or 4) they all start with the Sony Bravia advert, though little else that I'm aware of.

I would have expected that to watch 'Sky Movies on Anytime' we would need to be a Sky Movies subscriber. But on their website, they have this
Tell us what you have

To find out what Sky Anytime can offer you,
tell us what Sky TV package and Sky Box you have using the menus below:

Your Sky TV package >> selected Variety Mix (ie: no premium channels)
Your Sky box >> selected Sky+

If you have an up to date Sky+ box with the Variety Mix (includes Sky One),
you could enjoy all this with Sky Anytime (on tv).

Walk The Line (Sky Movies Drama)
Kylie : Cultural Icon (Sky Arts)
Soccer AM (Sky Sports)
Ben 10 (Cartoon Network)
Lost : Series 3 (Sky One)
Herbie : Fully Loaded (Sky Movies Family)
Dresden Files : Pilot (Sky One)
Lawrence of Arabia (Sky Movies Classics)

With Sky HD, you can watch Sky Anytime on your TV now;
if you've a recent Sky+ box, the service is being rolled out to you now.

Yeah, I tried watching a move and it asked me to upgrade my subscription.
