Pokemon Diamond & Pearl - the differences?

Hi, I've just picked up Pokemon Diamond and my mate has picked up Pearl. The Pokemon Pearl cart works with my Diamond save and i can continue on playing from my save point with no obvious changes. Can anyone tell me what the main differences are between the two games ?

About 10-15 different Pokemon in each, and a different legendary pokemon near the end (Dialga in Diamond, Palkia in Pearl).

Map, story etc. are the same as far as I know.
