    What is the story with renewing a passport... do I have to hand in my old passport.... and will I get it back?

    i think you get it back but the cut off the corners to signify that its canacelled?
    not sure though.

    Yes, you need to hand in the old one. They'll send it back with the corners chopped off and the word "CANCELLED" stamped on some of the pages. I just renewed my passport recently and this is what happened anyway.

    Yep, just renewed mine too. As Afuera said.

    You get one of those hip new ePassports, though :)
