Adsense... a bit too sensible?

Hmm.. at first when I saw a big LEONARD COHEN adsense banner on my myspace message page, I thought it was just a coincidence but now I see a smaller one with Leonard Cohen, Smashing Pumpkins and REM. Leonard Cohen and Smashing Pumpkins are two of my favourite artists of all time and it's not the first time I've seen either band mentioned in an adsense ad. Nothing on the page I'm viewing contains anything relating to either band so I'm really curious as to how it's returning them ads:confused:

Is anyone else getting the same ads on these pages or are they ads relating to stuff you like personally?

    Strange...

This is what Google does! They are no longer an internet browser; they gather information based on your searches and use that info to tailor ads to you. Adsense accounts for something like 90% of Google's revenue each year, so it pays them to profile you as accurately as possible.

Indeed, Google was getting so much flack for their assertion that all information they gathered (i.e. search info) would be kept in perpetuity, they recently felt the need to announce that all information would be destroyed after an 18 month period. After all, Google is a organisation that likes to perpetuate it's 'company that cares' image. Read up on it. They'll know you did, though...

P.S. Thanks to Adblock (firefox extension) I'm no longer bothered by such annoyances.
