In the midst of chomping through a 200g bag of almonds:

The ingredients per 100g are as follows....

    Energy: 612 kcal / 2534 kJ
    Protein: 21.1g
    Carbs: 6.9g
    Fat: 55.8g

.. which means if I eat this bag I'll take on just over 111.6g of fat

So this is good fat right? Even so I'm guessing a full bag is excessive. What is a guideline amount for fat intake. Is it 1g per kg bodyweight?

a serving of almonds is about 20 nuts, maybe a bit more if you're a big guy and can afford more calories. But yes, the fat in almonds is good fat, *great* fat in fact and almonds have appetite suppressing qualities too. I've often found almond oil really helps dampen my appetite when I use it with salads.

But no, you don't eat a 200g bag all in one go...

yeez, and I thought walnuts were the killer nuts..... I hate nuts. I'm trying to hide them in yogurt at the moment but I still hate 'em

Never fear folks, I have stowed the rest away for a rainy day - heart attack averted thanks to the boards.ie fitness forum.

One day when no one is around I'm going to empty the bag out on the desk and count how many portions of 20 nuts there is in there. I'd estimate 4 days worth.

Walnuts have more fat per 100g, but a higher percentage of it is polyunsaturated etc.

The depressing/amusing part is that I could (almost) sit down and eat nearly all of a 200g pack of almonds and still be within my fat intake target.

AND walnuts are high in Omega-3 oils, which means they're a good source if you don't like oily fish.
