    Hi All,

Quick question,The RTE 5 mile road race is on in Donnybrook on Saturday.

Is anyone allowed enter this or do you need to be part of the BHAA?

    I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

    Thanks

Anyone can enter. There may be a small fee that goes to the BHAA if you're not a member, but I don't think so. I've run a few races under their auspices.

I've seen this race and other's listed on race Calendars. But unlike the Bupa, Adidas or other high-profile runs, its almost impossible to get info on exactly where and when they are on, and who can enter.

Does anyone have this info? Seems like joining a running club is the only way to the necessary info for these events.

I did it last year. The cool bit is that ends on the outdoor set of "Fair City". I got a one-day BAHH membership on the day.

there is a free t-shirt and mug this year as it is the 30th anniversary of the race too. you can get a one day bhaa membership on the day. I think it is €10 to race if not a member already.

It's hardly nearly impossible to find out the details as donaghs says. It's a bhaa race, check their website as quozl helpfully links and just call the contacts if you want to know. Or as this thread shows, post on boards and you'll have the details in a few hours..

I'm away this weekend but this race sounds like a lot of fun :( I've never run a 5 mile before either. Oh well there's always next year.

I've been looking forward to this one since last year when I missed it. But still can't do anything thanks to tendonitis :( Next target is the adidas race series. /me crosses fingers.

anyone up for a couple of beers after the race?

Also - hunnymonster - do you go under that name on the RW forum by any chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,365 ✭✭✭hunnymonster

No I have another name on RW. There aren't that many female irish ironmen over there though so I'm easy enough to spot!

Have been trying to contact people about the race without much luck.

However I think that registration starts at 9:00am. Not absolutely sure.

Any idea how much the race is this year? Or what the route is?

On Saturday April 28th the RTÉ annual race will celebrate its 30th birthday and we would like to make it a special one. The first RTÉ sponsored race was held in 1977 and has been going strong ever since. The race will be on at 11.00 that morning, 5 miles through the RTÉ grounds with the Sports and Social Club as headquarters.
COMMEMORATIVE MUG AND T-SHIRT FOR ALL

sorry, as I said earlier it is 10 euro, not sure of the exact route.

thanks for that, sorry obviously wasn't paying close enough attention to see info about the entry fee!

All will be revealed on Saturday I guess :)

i think it is a two lapper, down nutely around merrion centre and back up via the lane at the back of donnybrook church and in the back gate of RTÉ, through the grounds and back around.

I ran the RTE 5 a few years ago and I think it was 4 laps of this route.

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=892530

I think each lap is about 1.2 miles, and it finished in front of McCoys Pub from Fair City. It is a flat course.

    It may have changed since.

I rang the number on the BHAA site and the guy told me that registration starts around 9.30 in the RTE Sports and Social Club just inside the main club and it costs €8 to enter on the day .. there's no advance registration.

    Jazzie

Donaghs, the Evening Herald on a Thursday is a good one for upcoming races .. here are some I've found
    Clonliffe Harriers .. May 7th .. can't remember if it's 2 miles or 3
    Sportsworld - 5 mile classic - May 13th
    Docklands Fun Run - 7k - May 22nd

I'm not near any of the running clubs but I use their sites to find fixtures

Just to clarify about the RTE race on Saturday next.

It is 5 miles, combined men and women, and starts near the RTE Sports and Social Club in the Montrose campus at 11.00. The course is either 4 or 5 laps - not ideal but necessary for safety reasons to avoid going out onto much busier roads nearby.

Entry is €8 for BHAA members but you can have a go at most BHAA events as a day member for €10. Annual membership is €15 and is just a matter of completing a form. Membership is open to anyone in employment or who is retired - it is not strictly open to full-time undergraduate students, hence the name - Business Houses Athletic Association.

Membership is recommended as the results process is automated with bar codes etc and will be much quicker if people are already on the database as members. For day members, their name, date of birth, company etc have to be keyed in from the entry form and obviously this is a time-consuming process. On Saturday, entries will be taken up to about 10.30 but you need to allow for the possibility of a queue so don't leave it too late.

Results are provided and prizes presented within an hour or so of the last finisher finishing, depending on numbers running. Typically there are prizes in a wide range of age groups, as well as for teams - although the team prizes are open to full members only. There are also leagues which are based on performances in the full series.

The website is at www.bhaa.net. To download a membership form, click on the "Join Us" icon on the website. To download the race calendar for 2007, click on the "Calendar" icon.

Finally, to be kept informed about all BHAA races and results, you can sign up for a free regular email newsletter by sending an email to bhaanews (at) eircom.net.
