    Sziget

    Anyone going?

This looks very good and ive heard nothing but good things. Plus its tool, yay.

I was thinking either this or exit but unless tool play at exit or some other to class band ar announced ill be going to this

faithless, chemical brothers, dave clarke, goldie, timo mass all good too and there are more to be announced i hope

I saw 230€ aer lingus flights to get there, also saw 160€ flights with ryanair but thats to bratislava, so might do that to save some euros. Still looking.

PS. Hope this isnt against the rules.......but does anyone know if its hard to get "certain substances" at this festival, and what the police are like etc?

Yeah, probably going to go too if I can get the cash together - NIN and Tool playing in one festival? I'm sold before I even read the rest of the line up!

Hey, not going to Sziget this year but was there last year. Crazy party place, 24 hour bars, €1 shots of absinthe, crazy eastern europeans, metal stage that goes on til 3 in the morning.
Being of the more peace and love variety of festival goer it was a bit of a shock but the diversity of music is great and they considerately put the metal stage well away from the rest of the stages - seriously the metalers were crazy, there were even a few neo-nazi and bands called hippiekillers.
One thing to check out though is the hare krishna tent,(not only for the free food of course) but to see the weirdest band in the world - wait for it - metal hare krishna. Not joking, imagine System of a Down singing Hare Krishna and you have some idea. The band even has 2 drummers. Definately a highlight!
And the toilets are the best I've ever used at a festival as they are cleaned every day. Also you can leave the festival and go into town - I reccomend going to the thermal baths in Budapest - very cheap, works out all the tent related back pain and nearest you will get to a shower all week. Enjoy!:) :)

I've been to Sziget the last 2 years and have my ticket for this year. It's incredible, the first year was the best week of my life. Some tips I learned:
    • arrive before it opens on day 0. The first day is good with not a whole lot to do but drink and set up. The queue takes ages, over 2 hours, but you'll want to get a good tent spot
    • stay away from the open, tent under trees. The heat can be unbearable and it has rained one day each of the last 2 years
    • bring Irish flags. It's slightly tacky but you are representing
    • don't sleep near the dance tent or too near any bar.
    • pack as little as possible and considering leaving behind what you can. Underware is not required and should be abandoned very quickly
    • don't brink any drink, they take everything off you above half a liter

I think I paid about €250 for flights and reckon that'll be the same. Oh, and I'm prolly going by myself so if anyone wants to meet for a drink before heading over, or even have an Irish get-together there, let me know. As for "certain substances", didn't try myself and there certainly wasn't much obviously floating around. But it's like minded festival goers, so I'm sure there was some.

The security are grand, you almost don't see them around at all. One the way in though they really go through your stuff. The food is fantastic, try the hotdogs with the onion, hmm. Also the Hungarian bread with all the sauces. Langos I think it's called. Have Palinka, the Hungarian fruit shots. I seem to remember butterscotch and cherry was a nice one.

Like I say, gimme a shout if you want to know more... Oh and my music tip is the Hungarian band Beatrice in the metal stage. The atmosphere is electric, think Saw Doctors in Galway.
